I want to make sure you saw this.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump ludicrously
claimed that Article 2 of the Constitution gives him the right to do
"whatever [he] want[s] as president."
Let me be clear: That is not what the
Constitution says. And that Trump would claim it does -- to the American
people -- speaks to the great risk our democracy faces from a Trump
presidency.
Trump's disturbing claim that he is above the
law makes clear just how important it is that we uphold the checks and
balances baked into the Constitution (yes, the same Constitution the
president erroneously referenced).
But to actually hold Trump and his corrupt
administration accountable, we need a Democratic controlled Senate. The GOP
has shown that their only loyalty lies with Trump -- not to our Constitution,
not to our Democracy, and certainly not to the American people.
And to take back the Senate for
Democrats, we need to win three seats in 2020.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
