THIS MEMORIAL DAY. U.S REP. SETH MOULTON.

David,

Above the World War I Memorial in my college church is an inscription that I think about today and every Memorial Day:

“While a bright future beckoned, they freely gave their lives and fondest hopes for us and our allies that we might learn from them courage in peace to spend our lives making a better world for others.”

I love this quote because it serves as both a memorial and a call to action. These words inspire me to do more for others.

However, you choose to spend your Memorial Day—whether or not you have the good fortune to gather with family and friends for the first time in a long time—please join me in reflecting on how each of us can find the courage to serve. To serve our friends, our families, our communities, and our country is perhaps the greatest respect we can pay to the men and women who have given their lives for all of us.

May we all have the courage to serve.

-Seth

SPECIAL MEMORIAL DAY REPRINT. FICTION- REWARD FOR THE FALLEN. FULL STORY.

 PART 1.

green trees

The man found himself on a dirt road.  How he came to be there was a mystery, for he could not remember the circumstances of his arrival.  In fact, he had no recollection of anything in the past.  All around him was an alien landscape and heavy foliage lined the path that stretched into the distance.
"What is going on?", he said to himself, "Why am I here?"  The man decided that perhaps the answer lay at the end of the trail, so he began to walk.

After a short time, a shape emerged before him, seemingly out of nowhere.  The man was startled, but regained his composure quickly.  Looking the newcomer over, the man was puzzled.  The figure was dressed in a shabby manner, wearing a worn out buckskin shirt and pants, and carrying an antiquated flintlock rifle.

The man wanted to speak to this new arrival, but never had the chance.  With a cursory glance, the one blocking his way said in a plain gruff voice; "You are on the right path, continue."  On that note, the individual stepped back into the overgrowth and disappeared.

"Strange," said the man, "an obvious eccentric."  So he continued on his way.

A short time later the man found his path once again blocked by an individual that appeared suddenly and without warning.  This time the intruder was dressed in a blue tunic, with matching blue trousers that had a yellow stripe running down the side of each leg.

Again, the man was given a quick once over, and then was addressed in an accent he couldn't identify;  "Ah, not a Son of Erin, but you'll do.  You're on the right path, continue."  As before, the way was made clear by the departure of this most recent interloper.

The man was confused.  "What is going on," he thought, "why am I here, and who are they that seem to pass judgment on whether or not to allow me to continue my journey?"

The man shook his head in bewilderment and continued on his quest to find the end of the trail.
However, things began to get more confusing.  Now his journey was often interrupted by individuals who spoke in languages he could not identify.  Almost as strange was the array of clothing that outfitted some of those who blocked his path.

Often they were quite colorful and very extravagant.  Yet, at other times they seemed quite simple, often consisting of a plain tunic or robe.  Attire on the head and feet also represented both ends of the spectrum. It could be a helmet or cap accompanied with boots, or bare-headed with sandals.

It was not just the clothes that became more varied.  Individuals came in all sizes with many different skin colors being represented.  From time to time the newcomer was a woman, who treated him with identical solemness.

The man was becoming extremely frustrated, but that only seemed to strengthen his resolve to complete the journey.  There were a couple of more things that lifted his spirits.  He knew, inexplicably, that each person was dressed in some type of uniform.  Additionally, that they all were evaluating him and the judgment was universally positive, whether or not he understood the words spoken.  It was the tone of voice that came through loud and clear.

green trees and plants during daytime
After what seemed to be an eternity, the man came upon a gate that crossed the path.  There was no way around, for the vegetation off the road seemed impenetrable.

As he gasped in frustration, he became aware of an approaching figure on the other side.  While this individual was dressed in now familiar clothes, his manner and look were different.  To the man, he appeared to be in his early twenties, but his wide-open smile set him apart from recent contacts.

"Hello Tony," the new arrival said, leaning against the gate.  "I guess you're wondering what the heck is going on."

The man looked intently at his counterpart and whispered out loud, "George Mellen, you were killed in a firefight outside of...," then he suddenly stopped, memories flooding back.

"Yeah, said his host, "I was killed in that tiny village, the one command considered vital to securing the region.  Caught one in the throat.  Wrong place, wrong time", he chuckled.

The man looked into the face of this lost comrade, and suddenly noticed that they were not alone.  Figures appeared from the trees that lay beyond the gated fence.  They were represented by every manner of dress he had already encountered, and some still unfamiliar.  The man was scared, but pride refused to let it be known to others.

"Tony, your home." His benefactor said, opening the gate.  The man hesitated crossing the threshold, and asked, "Am I dead, is this Heaven?"

"You're dead, that much is sure," George replied, "in time you'll recall the circumstances.  Is this Heaven? Let's just say it is an outpost on the edge of forever.  Just a place for men and women like you and me to rest, exchange stories, and prepare for what comes next."

As he passed through the gate, Tony became aware of the beauty of his new surroundings, and a feeling of peace and serenity settled over him.  Suddenly, he understood.  Turning to his companion he asked, "Is this just for us, no one else. Why?"

George gave him a slight smile, and as others gathered around them to offer welcome to the new arrival, answered; "I guess someone figured that those of us who gave all it was possible to give, and lost our lives with such brutality, deserved a special place where our sacrifice was acknowledged and appreciated.  I never expected such a place would exist, but our kind never asked for much in return.  Maybe that is why it's here, because we earned something we would never have asked for."

TO FUTURE HISTORIANS- WE WERE NOT ALL THIS BAD.

EXCERPTS BELOW FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE:

John Cena Apologizes to China for Calling Taiwan a Country.

John Cena, the professional wrestler and a star of “F9,” the latest installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise, apologized to fans in China on Tuesday after he referred to Taiwan as a country while giving a promotional interview.

Joining a long list of celebrities and companies that have profusely apologized after taking an errant step through China’s political minefields, Mr. Cena posted a video apology in Mandarin on Weibo, a Chinese social network.

....That list would include Gap, which in 2018 created a T-shirt that omitted Taiwan, parts of Tibet and islands in the South China Sea from a map of China on the shirt’s design. The luxury brands Versace, Givenchy and Coach said in 2019 they all made mistakes when they produced T-shirts that identified Hong Kong and Macau as countries.

“Versace reiterates that we love China deeply, and resolutely respect China’s territory and national sovereignty,” the company said in a statement at the time.

....China ordered 36 airlines to remove references to Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong as separate countries.

....The N.B.A. struggled to contain a fierce backlash when Daryl Morey, then the general manager of the Houston Rockets, tweeted in support of the Hong Kong protests in 2019. (LeBron James, one of basketball’s biggest stars, offered a China-friendly response, saying Mr. Morey “wasn’t educated on the situation at hand” by supporting the protesters.)

...Movie studios often preemptively ensure their content won’t run a foul of Chinese censors, a practice once mocked by “South Park.”

Help us condemn the permitless carry bill. BOOT TEXAS REPUBLICANS.

David,

Texas Republicans just sent an outrageous permitless carry bill to Abbott's desk -- legislation that would allow people to carry guns in public with no license, no safety course, and no background check.

Pending a signature by Gov. Abbott -- this bill will become the law of the land in Texas.

Instead of working to address gun violence and the scourge of mass shootings, Abbott and the Texas GOP are eager to put Texans in harms' way just to signal their conservative values. They know that permitless carry will mean more Texans will be victims of gun violence -- they just don't care.

Add your name to our petition to condemn permitless carry and the Texas Republicans who support it.

Texas has already had 18 mass shootings in 2021 -- the most of any state. That's why, according to a recent University of Texas poll, most Texans oppose unlicensed carry.

Help us show Abbott and the Texas GOP where Texans stand on this reckless bill.

Thanks,

Boot Texas Republicans

NEW MEXICO SPECIAL ELECTION: DEM. CAND. MELANIE STANSBURY.

My name is Melanie Stansbury, and my friend Adam Schiff asked me to reach out. I’m running to keep Deb Haaland’s seat Blue and represent the people of New Mexico’s First Congressional District.

Our special election is just 8 days away, and Republicans are doing everything they can to flip this seat red. If we do not prevail, it would be disastrous for our Democratic House majority, passing progressive legislation, and for New Mexico’s families.

I’m a born and raised New Mexican. I grew up in the heart of this district, playing along the Rio Grande, and attended public schools K-12. I know the challenges our communities face because I grew up in a working family that often struggled to make ends meet. I am fighting to ensure those in the same situation can live a better life. My experiences working in the U.S. Senate, the White House, and now as a State Representative have prepared me to lead and fight for the issues impacting our families.

I’m running for Congress to be a champion for women’s rights, to fight for our public lands, to ensure no child goes hungry, and to make sure we address the biggest issue of our time: climate change.

But to keep this seat Blue, I need your help. With time running out before the election we need every resource possible to fend off Republican attacks.

It would be the honor of my life to serve the people of NM-01, and I couldn’t be more grateful for your support.

Melanie Stansbury
Candidate for Congress (NM-01)

YOU REALLY DON'T SEE WHY? THAT IS SAD.

TO ALL TRUMPIANS AND REPUBLICANS,

(SEE BELOW)

LET ME ASK THE FOLLOWING? IF THIS WAS YOUR U.S. REP, VOTED INTO OFFICE

BY YOUR COMMUNITY, WOULD YOU REALLY FIND IT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY

BUSINESSES, INVESTORS, AND OTHER COMMUNITIES WOULD NOT WANT TO HAVE A

RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU?

FURTHER, IF THE LEADER OF YOUR PARTY, (DONALD), WILL NOT CONDEMN HER, OR

THOSE LIKE HER, EXACTLY WHAT FORM OF GOVERNMENT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

ALL  I SEE IS FASCISM, WITH THE "CULT OF THE INDIVIDUAL," AND THE DESTRUCTION

OF CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES, AS THE RESULT OF ELECTING "CITIZENS" LIKE

 TRUMP AND GREENE.

FROM THE ARTICLE: 'Evil lunacy': GOP lawmakers slam Marjorie Taylor Greene's comparing House mask mandate to Holocaust.

WRITTEN BY- ALAN SMITH FOR NBC NEWS.

Republican lawmakers blasted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., over the weekend for comparing the House's mask mandate to the Holocaust.

The Republicans who criticized Greene were among those who either voted to impeach President Donald Trump this year or, in addition, voted to strip Greene of her committee assignments.

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who was recently ousted from GOP leadership after she continued to refute Trump's electoral falsehoods, lambasted Greene's comparison as "evil lunacy" in a tweet.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., one of three House Republicans who voted both for Trump's impeachment and to strip Greene of her committee assignments, tweeted that Greene's remarks amount to "Absolute sickness."

And Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that the comments were "beyond reprehensible."

"This is, I don't even have words to describe how disappointing it is to see this hyperbolic speech that frankly amps up and plays into a lot of the antisemitism that we've been seeing in our society today," he said.

In an appearance last week on the podcast "The Water Cooler with David Brody," Greene lamented to a nodding Brody about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to maintain a mask mandate on the House floor because of concerns many GOP members may not be vaccinated.

"This woman is mentally ill," Greene said of Pelosi, D-Calif. "You know, we can look back in a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star and they were definitely treated like second-class citizens — so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany, and this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about."

She was referring to the millions of Jews who were forced to wear a Star of David on their clothes, sent to concentration camps and murdered during World War II. A poll conducted this year showed an increase in antisemitism around the world, as well as a lack of awareness about the Holocaust among adults under 40, 11 percent of whom said they believed it was caused by Jewish people.

CNN survey this month found that fewer than half of House Republicans would say they had been vaccinated, compared to 100 percent of House Democrats. Greene said recently that Pelosi "cannot force" her to be vaccinated.

The American Jewish Congress called on Greene on Twitter to apologize and retract her comments, saying "such comparisons demean the Holocaust & contaminate American political speech." A Change.org petition to have House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., expel her from Congress had attracted almost 25,000 signatures by late Sunday afternoon.

Greene has come under repeated scrutiny for her past promotion of conspiracy theories like QAnon and for having appeared to endorse violence against Pelosi before she sought office. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., condemned her for spreading "loony lies," and the Democratic-controlled House remove her from committees in February in a vote backed by 11 Republicans.

TIME TO ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS. # 1.

As you read the Article below, ask yourself the following questions:

- Who benefits the most by part of the Republican Party insisting that the

2020 Presidential Election was rigged against D. Trump?

 - What has caused the split between the two wings of the Republican Party:

Those who support Trumps claims, and those who deny them?

-  Do you think that the average Trump Supporter believes his claims because of the

quality of the evidence, or that their support is based on willful ignorance, or pure

   self-interest?

 - Trump claimed that both the 2016 and 2018 elections were also fraudulent,

yet the only solid evidence of fraud was that the 2016 Presidential Election was

rigged against his opponent Hillary Clinton. This being the 3rd example of unsupported

claims, Why are the Democrats refusing to use this information?

  More questions in the future.
