Petition: Trump needs to close immigrant camps now. BOB FERGUSON.

Hi David,

On November 9, 2016, the day after Donald Trump was elected, I told my team to get ready to go to work. From day one of President Trump’s campaign it was clear that this president would pursue illegal, discriminatory actions to demonize and intimidate immigrants and their families. So I made sure our team was ready to challenge President Trump’s harmful, unconstitutional policies the day he took office.

Three days after he announced his Muslim Travel Ban, we stood up to President Trump and handed him the first legal defeat of his presidency. We protected DREAMERs from the threat of deportation through our lawsuit -- two years later, the judicial order is still the only thing keeping DACA in place. We supported an ACLU lawsuit to prevent the administration from unilaterally refusing to hear asylum claims. And, when the president tore immigrant children from their families’ arms, my office led a coalition of more than a dozen states in a lawsuit to stop the administration’s cruel family separation policy.

You know our record. We are 21-0 against the Trump administration. We keep fighting, and we’ll keep winning -- but the president keeps pushing his dangerous agenda.

President Trump has created a humanitarian crisis at the border. His reckless policies -- separating children from their families, keeping children in cages, and allowing inhumane, cruel conditions in detention centers -- exacerbate the suffering of people who come here fleeing violence, seeking refuge, and trying to build a better life. We know that immigrant children have been held for weeks without access to basic necessities like clean water, toothbrushes, showers, soap or a place to sleep. The Justice Department’s lawyers are even trying to argue that they don’t need to provide children with toothbrushes.

I am sickened at these reports. This is not what America stands for.

That’s why yesterday I filed a legal brief asking a judge to issue a restraining order against the Trump administration to protect the health and safety of the children detained at the border.

Enough is enough. I’m standing up to the president and his disregard for judicial orders and the basic human rights of immigrant children. But I need to know you’re with me in this fight.

-Bob
