OUTRAGED AND HEARTBROKEN. JENNIFER WEXTON.

David,

The recent images at the border and at migrant detention centers should outrage everyone. As a long-time advocate for abused children, I am heartbroken. Our government’s actions are inflicting severe trauma, and we need to fix this situation immediately.

The Trump administration has put families in utterly inhumane conditions. We’ve seen shocking reports of overcrowded facilities lacking basic necessities, such as clean water.

I am ashamed of what’s been done in America’s name to those seeking a better life here. We can be a nation of laws and still treat other human beings with dignity.

I support intensive oversight and a full investigation by Congress into the mistreatment of migrant children. Those who let the situation reach this point must be held accountable.

I ask that we all think of our shared humanity in this moment. That we value compassion. And that we reject the hateful rhetoric that’s been designed to divide us and demonize those at the border.

We are better than this.

-Jennifer
