David, When I think of my mom, Kathy Harbaugh, I think about her independence -- she was an Air Force wife who raised two boys with a fighter-pilot husband gone much of the time. I think about her compassion -- she was always adopting stray animals, like one-eyed Jack, the dog I spent my high-school years with.   I think about her courage -- like the time she crawled through the woods with a fractured femur bone, and got herself to help without once losing her cool.   I think about her patriotism -- how she has always believed that America must be a force for good in the world, and sent both of her sons into the military with that same love of country.         Most of all, I think about my mom’s boundless love for her family. She raised me and my brother to see the best in people, and to believe that everyone is worthy of love and respect. I am so lucky to have her in my life.
