David,
The numbers don't lie: The blue wave will be powered by women.
So far, primaries have been held in 147 House districts, and women have been the nominees in 43 percent of the Democratic contests.
That's an excellent start. But 19 states and D.C. have primary elections in June — and we need to keep up the support for pro-choice Democratic women in competitive races.
Unsurprisingly, the numbers on the Republican side are fairly weak.
In the primaries held so far, just 7 percent of all the Republican House nominees have been women.
That's because there just isn't a Republican equivalent of EMILY's List — we're the organization for women in politics, and our support really does make a difference.
Five months out from Election Day, we've already helped 13 of our House candidates through their primaries, and two more are heading to runoffs.
But we still have 36 House women facing primaries — not to mention dozens of other women running for state and local office, too!
Thanks — and go team!
Emily Cain
Executive Director, EMILY's List
