Dear DAVID,
The global coronavirus outbreak has created myriad challenges for all of us, and philosophers have much to contribute to conversations about the pandemic and its consequences. To provide insight into some of these challenges from feminist perspectives, APA Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy editor Lauren Freeman has organized a special issue of the newsletter: Feminist Responses to COVID-19 and Pandemics.
The essays in this issue are relevant and timely and cover a wide range of topics surrounding the pandemic, including the following:
- racial and gender differences in illness and treatment
- the magnification of already existing inequalities
- intimate partner violence
- parenting and risk
- our changing conception of the nature of ethical goods
- mental health
- the traumatic fallout of experiencing intubation and being cared for in the intensive care unit
- the role of empathy in leadership
I hope you will find this special collection of essays to be useful, and I encourage you to share it with your colleagues and students.
All the best,
Kathryn Norlock
