David, President Trump’s reported comments in The Atlantic, in which he refers to the 2,289 American service members buried at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery as “losers” and “suckers,” are outlandish and represent a dereliction of duty in his role as commander in chief.
My first job in the Obama Administration was overseeing our overseas military cemeteries-- including Aisne-Marne in France, which the president skipped on his 2018 trip. Walking for hours among thousands of graves of fellow Americans there was humbling beyond measure. It is unacceptable that our President would so gravely disrespect our fallen heroes, their families and loved ones, every veteran, and this nation.
If you have a few minutes, I invite you to take a look at my Op-Ed, published in the Boston Globe today, in reaction to Trump’s words.
Together, we can do the work necessary to restore the soul of our nation.
Thank you,
