David,
January 6, 2021 was a dark day for America. The insurrection that day was painful and scary and indicative of something deeply sick within the Republican Party.
The last few months following the November elections have been difficult, too. We’re confronting a wave of disinformation that is unprecedented in American politics. We are confronting a political opposition that refuses to peacefully accept the outcomes of democratic elections. And now there are tens of thousands of troops protecting Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White House in Washington, D.C. because too many Americans believe the lies that have been told about “rigged” election results.
Tomorrow is such a hopeful day because, despite the lies that have been told—and despite the unrelenting attempts to overturn the results of the presidential election—Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will begin their terms as president and vice president of the United States.
Among other things, their inauguration will be a signal to all Americans—and to everyone watching around the world—that our democracy is resilient. Despite the efforts to undermine it, it still stands.
Though the last few months—and years—have been challenging, we are now turning the page on this dark chapter of American history. Voters overwhelmingly rejected Donald Trump, and now we are less than 24 hours away from a Biden-Harris administration.
Help us celebrate Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the strength of our democracy by adding your name here:
