Four minutes.
That’s approximately how long it took the shooter who murdered my sweet little Daniel to kill 20 children and six educators. Just four minutes.
He took ten 30-round gun magazines with him into Sandy Hook Elementary that day, deliberately leaving the smaller magazines at home. In the blink of an eye, Daniel was gone forever.
But when the shooter paused to reload, 11 children were able to escape. It’s agonizing to think that Daniel might still be here with me today if the gunman hadn’t had access to these kinds of high-capacity magazines.
Nothing I do can ever bring my kindhearted boy back, but it’s not too late to save another parent’s child. Last year, Congress took historic steps to prevent gun violence because people like you demanded action. Now, we need to ramp up even more pressure – because we know that limiting the size of ammunition magazines to 10 or 15 rounds will save lives.
That’s why I’m asking for your help today. We’re collecting 50,000 signatures on our new petition demanding lawmakers finally pass this legislation to protect more children from gun violence. Please, will you add your name right away?
I can’t thank you enough for taking action today – and for all that you do to help me honor Daniel’s too-short life. Your support is how we’ll continue to make meaningful change that will save lives.
Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
