Dear David, This week, we celebrate our country’s Independence Day. Since July 4, 1776, the United States has stood as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to all mankind. Our values of freedom, equality, and opportunity have built the strongest, most powerful country in the history of the world. Those same values have offered a goal for every country to strive towards. As President Abraham Lincoln put it in a message to Congress more than 150 years ago, the United States of America still stands as “the last best hope of earth.” Today, many of us feel that our core values are under attack. In an era of constant political fighting, and a presidency that takes place largely on Twitter, it’s easy to feel like these values are slipping away. We can’t let that happen. America is worth fighting for. As we celebrate our country today, I want you to know that I will never stop fighting to uphold our core values as Americans. Working together, we can preserve freedom, equality, and opportunity for the next generation. We can protect and preserve the ideals of our Founding Fathers, and continue to be an example of goodness to the world.
