Sometimes the Most Frustrating Part of Writing Commentary, on any Subject, is seeing the Desperation by which Those who have had Their Opinions or Conclusions shown to be Incorrect or Mistaken, Try to Produce New Arguments to Salvage the Ill- Conceived Judgments.
It could be Simple Pride or Hubris, Misplaced Loyalty, or even a Lack of Knowledge or Information. Perhaps we can understand These Motivations, but in other cases the Reasons are Less Clear, and Hint at a Desire to Throw Logic and Critical Thinking out Completely. Instead, Using Prejudice, and Self- Centered Ideology to convince others They were right all along.
Recent Events in the U.S. has shown that even one of the Most Treasured and Revered Concepts:
RIGHTS, can still Invoke Strong Feelings and Negative Reactions in People who forget or Ignore the REASONING THAT LED TO THEIR DEFINITION AND CREATION. THIS CAN LEAD TO
MISAPPLYING THEM IN REAL LIFE SITUATIONS, WHICH MAY RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC
CONSEQUENCES THAT END UP BENEFITING NO ONE.
On Page 3 of this Website, (ETHICS AND MORALITY), I WROTE A SERIES
OF ARTICLES UNDER THE TITLE;
" RIGHTS- WHAT THEY ARE, AND WHAT THEY ARE NOT."
I am Going to Use the DEFINITIONS AND PRINCIPLES LAID OUT IN
THESE POSTS, TO ADDRESS ANY ISSUES RAISED IN THIS
PARTICULAR ARTICLE.
FIRST, WE WILL ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS THAT SEEM TO CREATE
CONFUSION, WHEN DISCUSSING THIS TOPIC.
- CAN YOUR RIGHTS BE USED TO DENY OTHERS THE OPPORTUNITY
TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS?
- CAN YOU LOSE YOUR RIGHTS?
- ARE CERTAIN RIGHTS CONSIDERED TO BE MORE IMPORTANT
THAN OTHERS?
TO BE CONTINUED...
