The best argument I've seen for checks and balances. PAT LEAHY.

I want to make sure you saw this.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump ludicrously claimed that Article 2 of the Constitution gives him the right to do "whatever [he] want[s] as president."

Let me be clear: That is not what the Constitution says. And that Trump would claim it does -- to the American people -- speaks to the great risk our democracy faces from a Trump presidency.

Trump's disturbing claim that he is above the law makes clear just how important it is that we uphold the checks and balances baked into the Constitution (yes, the same Constitution the president erroneously referenced).

But to actually hold Trump and his corrupt administration accountable, we need a Democratic controlled Senate. The GOP has shown that their only loyalty lies with Trump -- not to our Constitution, not to our Democracy, and certainly not to the American people.

And to take back the Senate for Democrats, we need to win three seats in 2020.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator

The Trump administration is still fighting to undermine the 2020 census and undercount communities across the country.

Do you approve of the Trump administration’s attempts to sabotage the census?

The Trump administration:
  • Directed the Census Bureau to include a citizenship question that would have caused an undercount of 7 million people. It was so obviously politically motivated, the Supreme Court ruled against it!
  • Issued an executive order to collect citizenship data after its loss in court.
  • Is continuing to find new ways to undermine the census and undercount communities of color.
A miscount would be a HUGE problem. The census determines how political power is divided among states and congressional districts during redistricting. If we lose this fight, Democrats will be locked out of power for a decade or more.

DAVID, we need to make it clear that we will NOT stand for this. You’ve been selected to complete a time-sensitive digital poll to determine where voters stand on this issue.

We are 37 responses short in 02771 of being able to analyze our data with statistical confidence. We pulled our records, and here’s what we found:

Here's my message to drug companies-- VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL MARK HERRING.

David,
The roots of the opioid crisis run right through American medicine cabinets into the boardrooms and marketing offices of pharmaceutical companies.

They need to be held accountable.

These drug companies flooded this country with BILLIONS of pills.

They cooked up sales incentives and marketing schemes to sell more and more pills. They found ways, often through deception or lies, to get doctors to prescribe more and more pills.

At every step of the way they put profit over people, and they created the deadliest drug epidemic in the history of this nation.

New data is shedding light on the unbelievable volume of pills these companies pushed into communities around the country, including right here in Virginia. Two Virginia cities actually had more pills shipped in than any other cities in the entire country.

Data like that just confirms what you’ll hear if you talk to any police chief, any public health coordinator, or the mayor of any city.

And the numbers confirm what you hear when you talk to the family of someone who is either struggling with opioid addiction or who died from an overdose.

It starts with the pills. It always starts with the pills.

It can be a fast and frightening fall from a sports injury or car accident or dental work, to opioid misuse, to opioid dependence, to cheaper, more potent opioids from the street like heroin or fentanyl.

I’ve been working on this problem for years now with a comprehensive approach that includes education, prevention, treatment, and smart new laws to go along with enforcement against traffickers and drug companies. We’re starting to see some positive trends, but that doesn’t mean the problem is going away. I promise you that as...attorney general I’ll keep fighting for...all the Virginia families confronting this crisis, and for accountability for the drug companies responsible for this crisis.
Mark.

Three HUGE wins. DEMOCRATIC GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION.

BREAKING: Democrats could win in states like Louisiana, Kentucky and even Mississippi!

This is HUGE, DAVID: Democrats are gaining serious ground in the South – and could win in states like Louisiana, Kentucky and Mississippi!
Right now, Kentucky GOP Gov. Matt Bevin is the least popular governor in the country and Cook Political Report calls this race a “toss-up”! Democrats are up in Louisiana – and recent polls show Democratic candidate Jim Hood LEADING by a hair in Mississippi!
But DAVID, the GOP is spending millions attacking Dems in critical states like these. If we don't fight back, we could lose this historic chance to flip red states blue and to stop Trump’s candidates from rubber-stamping his inhumane agenda all over the country.
