Supporting Washington's natural resources. BOB FERGUSON.
BREAKING: Trump backs away from gun safety. JENNIFER WEXTON.
We need to double down on our push
for gun violence prevention legislation.
|
Like he always does, Donald Trump
just caved to the whims of the gun lobby.
Immediately after the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton earlier this month, Trump said there was a “great appetite” for universal background checks.
But this week, during a phone call with Wayne LaPierre of the NRA, Trump said that background checks were off the table. He then echoed the NRA’s talking points about a “slippery slope” if we start passing basic gun safety measures.
This political cowardice is why we fail to prevent mass shootings time and again. Jennifer is determined to make this time different.
Universal background checks have overwhelming public support and could pass Congress with a veto-proof majority. So we need to demand Mitch McConnell not to cave in to the NRA as Trump has.
David, add your name immediately and demand that McConnell allow a vote on universal background checks. We need 10,000 signatures this week to maintain the public pressure!

ARE THEY ALL TALK? (INTRO.)
HOW CAN WE TELL IF A CANDIDATE, POLITICIAN, PARTY, LAWMAKER etc., IS JUST PLAYING LIP SERVICE TO "SUPPORTING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE?", AND IS ACTUALLY PROMOTING HARMFUL LEGISLATION?
- Look at past QUOTES AND SPEECHES REGARDING OTHER TOPICS, ISSUES, OR PROPOSED LEGISLATION. Did They Predict Dire Consequences if the Opposition Prevailed? Did Their DOOM AND GLOOM PREDICTIONS SEEM TO BE AN EXTREME OVERREACTION?
- If They have been on the Losing End of EITHER SUPPORTING OR OPPOSING A PARTICULAR PIECE OF LEGISLATION, HOW CLOSE WERE THEY TO THE TRUTH IN PREDICTING THE OUTCOME, IN CASE THEIR ADVICE WASN'T FOLLOWED?
- Listen Carefully to the claim that certain INDIVIDUALS, GROUPS, AND PARTS OF SOCIETY/ELECTORATE WILL BENEFIT FROM SUPPORTING THE POSITION BEING TAKEN. How likely is this to be True? What Type of
Argument or Evidence can they produce to support this Conclusion.
- WHEN CRITICIZING THE OPPOSITIONS VIEWPOINT, DO THEY RELY ON AD HOMINEM ATTACKS, OR CAN THEY CITE VALID REASONS THAT BACK UP THEIR CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE JUDGMENTS BEING MADE BY THOSE WHO ARE AGAINST THEM?
- CAN THEY PERSONALLY BENEFIT FROM ADVOCATING A PARTICULAR
STANCE ON AN ISSUE, AND IF SO, IS IT AFFECTING THE JUDGMENTS BEING MADE?

We’re the next front on gun control.
David,
Sadly, we’ve seen this
scenario play out before:
A mass shooting occurs. Our
do-nothing President caves into the gun lobby. The Republican-controlled Senate
refuses to act. While families and communities mourn their lost ones,
politicians offer thoughts and prayers -- but nothing changes.

A mass shooting occurs. Our

Virginia can be different.
The New York Times
had this headline recently: “The Next Front in the Fight Over Gun Control?
Virginia.”
The article highlights how
our November election will be the first test of gun rights and gun safety
measures as a voting issue, particularly if Democrats take control of the
General Assembly.
You
can read the entire article by clicking here.
David, whether it’s gun
safety, making health care affordable and accessible, protecting our civil
liberties, ensuring a woman’s reproductive freedom, or investing in
high-quality public education, Virginia can set the pace for the rest of the
country in 2019.
At WinVirginia, we’re
working around the clock to train, support, and elect Democrats to the
General Assembly from districts in every corner of the Commonwealth. We know
what’s at stake in November -- not just for Virginia, but for the entire
nation.
Thanks for your support.
