Have a minute for a phone call with Tom? TOM STEYER.

Hi DAVID,

It’s been an exciting week! Tom made his first debate appearance just two days ago, we welcomed a ton of new supporters to the campaign (Hi, I’m Clarice!), and team members across the country held amazing watch parties to cheer on Tom.

We’re going to keep ramping up, and our next big step happens Tuesday when we’ll be hosting a call with special guest — Tom!

Join Tom and campaign organizers on Tuesday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time/6:00 p.m. Eastern Time as they talk about how we’re working out in the community to return power to the people. You’ll also learn all the best ways to get involved with Tom 2020.

If you have any questions, email events@tomsteyer.com and someone from our team will reach out to help.

The momentum is real,
Clarice

NPR NEWS: 6 Takeaways From The 4th Democratic Presidential Primary Debate

The debate was a long one, about three hours. Elizabeth Warren faced new scrutiny, Pete Buttigieg controlled multiple exchanges and the potential conflicts of interest of Joe Biden's son got relatively little focus.

WHAT A NIGHT. TOM STEYER.

I just walked off the Democratic National Committee’s presidential primary debate stage.

DAVID, there are moments on the campaign trail when I’m acutely reminded why we need someone from outside Washington in the White House. Tonight, standing up on that stage talking about the shameful stranglehold that corporations have on our democracy and the lives of hard-working Americans, was one of those moments — and a very public reminder that the establishment has been unwilling or unable to address our most serious challenges.

Too many people feel like their government has tossed them by the wayside. The sad truth, the truth that I am determined to tell, is that they’re right.

Our democracy has been victim to a hostile takeover by big, wealthy corporations that are rigging the system to put their CEOs and shareholders above real people. Whether it’s Big Pharma profiting off the opioid crisis while skirting accountability for the harm they’re inflicting or the National Rifle Association furthering the public health epidemic that is gun violence — corporations and lobbyists have a stranglehold on our government.

Our country is at a crossroads. We have a lawless president who is working for corporations and cozying up to dictators — at the expense of the American people. I know that the only way to take on this corruption is through the grassroots. That’s why this campaign works to reach people across the country day in and day out. It’s hard work, but this moment is too important to take the easy path.

Tom Steyer.

Some thoughts I wanted to share with you before the debate. TOM STEYER.

I’m here in Ohio with my team — my wife Kat, my kids, a couple of our closest friends, and some of the hard-working people helping run this campaign. In a few hours, I’ll be on CNN debating the other Democratic candidates for the first time. I hope you’ll tune in to watch.

Before I go up there, I want you to know one thing: This isn’t just about me. It’s about all of us.

When I’m talking about my plans to break the pervasive corporate control of our government, I’m thinking about the family I met in Denmark, South Carolina, who doesn’t have clean drinking water because corporations have been getting away with polluting for too long.

When I’m talking about how I plan to tackle the climate crisis, I’m thinking about the people I met at our climate justice town hall in Oakland, California, and the thoughtful conversations we had about how we’re going to stabilize the natural world together.

When I’m talking about Mr. Trump’s dangerous presidency, I’m thinking of the more than 8 million Need to Impeach supporters who called for impeachment with me and who continue to fight for accountability in Washington.

I draw a cross on the back of my hand every day to remind myself to tell the truth, and the most important truth to tell right now is that there is a serious consequence to staying silent in the face of adversity — and that consequence ripples throughout generations.

I’m running for president to put power back in your hands, so we can welcome a brighter, more sustainable, equitable future for all. I’m excited you’re giving me the chance, and I’m glad to know you’ll be watching tonight.

See you soon,
Tom
