"Amy Klobuchar may have the best chance of beating Donald Trump." AMY KLOBUCHAR.

DAVID,

As communications director for this campaign, it’s my job to make sure people hear just how great Amy’s message is. You’ve probably seen the Washington Post call her “Trump’s worst nightmare” and the New York Times say she was one of the “stars of the night” after the first debate.

Now a new piece from the Washington Monthly reports that
“Amy Klobuchar may have the best chance [of all the Democratic candidates] of beating Donald Trump.”

Here’s the deal: Democrats’ number one priority must be to get Trump out of office. And Amy is the best person to get it done -- no question.

She knows how to win tough races. She knows how to win in the Heartland and even in places Trump carried overwhelmingly. As the Washington Monthly wrote, “[Amy] has won a majority of counties in every election, including winning counties that Trump won by over twenty points.”

On top of all that, Amy is “experienced, knowledgeable and effective” and “can match Trump zinger for zinger while doing something he cannot -- convincing most Americans that she actually cares about them.”

Look, we know Amy is the best candidate for the job. But she can’t get to the White House on her own...

Thanks,
Tim Hogan, Communications Director

David, this week our country yet again witnessed unspeakable violence.

As Vice President Biden said, the American people may be running out of tears, but we cannot run out of strength and resolve to get something done.

We must act now to end the violence -- will you sign our petition to demand that Congress BAN assault weapons and high-capacity magazines now?
Assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are meant for war. There’s just no reason why someone needs a military-grade weapon that can fire more than 30 rounds per minute. And there’s just no reason why someone needs to be able to fire off 100 rounds before reloading.

Joe Biden understands this. That’s why, with Senator Feinstein, he successfully led the effort to enact the only ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines that we’ve ever had, which the Bush Administration and a Republican Congress refused to renew in 2004.

And David, he wants your help to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines once more. So if you’re with him, sign your name to tell Congress to ban these weapons of war now →

Thanks for your help,
Team Joe

Scott Walker. DGA.

DAVID – when the Supreme Court upheld partisan gerrymandering, we knew it wouldn’t take long for the GOP to seize the moment and further manipulate maps, undermine the will of voters, and block fair districts.

Now, after losing reelection in Wisconsin, gerrymandering’s number one fan Scott Walker has a new hobby to keep him busy: subverting the will of Michigan voters. He’s working to block the creation of an independent redistricting commission that Michigan voters overwhelmingly voted into law last year. He’ll stop at NOTHING to use partisan gerrymandering to manipulate the system and win elections!

That’s why our Unrig The Map program is leading the charge to fight back. But we urgently need your help to get 25,000 more signatures nationwide. Will you join me and add your name to end partisan gerrymandering?

This spring, a district court ordered that 24 districts in Michigan be redrawn due to extreme partisan gerrymandering. But SCOTUS’s controversial decision undercuts that ruling and opens Michigan and states across the country up to further attempts to manipulate the system. We cannot let that happen.

SIGN ON: We need 457 signatures from 02771 to end partisan gerrymandering!

It’s my job to make sure the DGA is prepared to protect – and expand – the number of Democratic governors from coast to coast. And with self-serving Republican governors and state legislatures working to use partisan gerrymandering to exploit our broken political system, it has never been more important to secure Democratic victories.

Last cycle, we won SEVEN redistricting target states with our Unrig the Map program! Now we’re launching an all-out offensive to put Democratic governors in charge in five key states ahead of the 2020 census and redistricting.

If we can win these races and secure fair maps, Democrats can deal a crushing blow to Trump’s dangerous agenda. But that all depends on what we do right now.
Please, speak out now before it’s too late: Add your name to stop to partisan gerrymandering!

Thank you for taking action on this important issue.

APA: Paper submissions are open for the 2020 APA Pacific Division meeting.

American Philosophical Association

Dear DAVID,

The Pacific Division of the APA invites submissions of papers and posters for its 2020 annual meeting, to take place in San Francisco, California, April 8–11 at the Westin St. Francis.

Each year the Pacific Division hosts approximately 75 invited sessions, 150 refereed papers, 15 APA committee sessions, and 75 sessions organized by affiliated groups. All areas of philosophy are represented.

Deadline and instructions

The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 2, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Submissions are accepted only through the APA’s submission website. Through the paper submission system, you can do the following:
  • Easily review your submission by clicking “Proofread” on your Author Home page
  • Tell which sections of your submission are complete
  • View or change your uploaded documents
  • Upload in PDF or Word format
Before submitting, please read through the paper submission guidelines. Submissions that do not follow the guidelines will not be reviewed.

APA membership

To submit a paper or to participate in the meeting program, authors must be current members of the APA. Please be sure to renew your APA membership. Reduced dues rates are available to students, K-12 teachers, international members, and non-academic philosophers. If you've just joined, you'll need to create an account in the paper submissions system—one will not be created for you automatically.

Refereeing

Refereeing is done in September and the program is finalized in late November. Volunteers to serve as commentators or chairs are most welcome. To volunteer, please fill out the online form.

Stipends and travel assistance

Graduate students whose posters or papers are accepted for presentation may be eligible for a stipend of $400. Those who are interested should check the relevant box on the online submission form. Documentation of graduate student status will be requested from authors of accepted papers, and is due December 1.

The Pacific Division strongly encourages all eligible members to submit papers for the 2020 meeting, but we especially encourage submissions from women and other groups historically underrepresented in the profession. Data on the demographics of speakers and other participants is published on the Pacific Division website. There are travel assistance funds available for overseas philosophers and philosophers of color. For more information, visit the APA website and navigate to Meetings > Travel Assistance.

Types of submissions

The Pacific Division anonymously referees submissions in three categories: posters, colloquium papers, and symposium papers. All submissions must be accompanied by an abstract of up to 150 words and a synopsis of up to 750 words. Colloquium papers of 3,000 words are presented in one-hour sessions with a commentator's response, a short reply from the author, and general discussion. Symposium papers of 5,000 words are presented in two-hour sessions with responses from two commentators, the author's reply, and general discussion. Only a very small number of symposium papers are accepted.
