Help strengthen the future of philosophy. AMERICAN PHILOSOPHICAL ASSOCIATION.

Dear DAVID,
The APA aims to strengthen the future of philosophy by supporting the development and dissemination of teaching materials and techniques at all levels and providing support for efforts to teach philosophy in primary and secondary schools.

The teaching fund was created to provide financial support for innovative teaching projects and initiatives, such as the Teaching Hub, a series of interactive workshops and conversations designed to address the teaching of philosophy across all levels, held in conjunction with APA meetings. However, the teaching fund is supported entirely by donations rather than by an endowment, and its current balance is approximately only $3,000. Regrettably, we have had to turn down several recent requests for funding due to insufficient funds.

Without additional donations from APA members, we will not be able to provide funding for deserving projects and programs related to the teaching of philosophy. Please help strengthen the future of philosophy by donating to the teaching fund today.

With gratitude,

Amy E. Ferrer

How do we stop climate change? JENNIFER WEXTON.

David,

This past weekend marked the two-year anniversary of Donald Trump withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. This reckless action drastically set back our efforts to fight climate change. And new studies show that time is quickly running out to reverse its effects.

Jennifer knows that we need bold action to preserve our planet and natural resources for future generations. And if we’re going to act, we need to get as many citizens involved as possible.

Your voice matters to her. Can you take a minute to fill out our survey and tell Jennifer your thoughts on how we can stop climate change?
SURVEY RESPONSE REQUESTED

How should we address climate change?

RESPONDENT: David McDonald
SURVEY STATUS: 0% Complete
Jennifer has always fought for renewable energy and responsible stewardship. When she was in the State Senate, she sponsored legislation that would expand consumers’ access to community solar energy, mandate quicker reporting on hazardous spills in Virginia waterways, and broaden the powers of the Department of Environmental Quality to go after polluters.

She’s brought these principles to Congress, and was proud to vote for the Climate Action Now Act last month to affirm the House’s support for the Paris Climate Agreement. But she’s up against a White House that questions science, an EPA that’s being blocked from doing its job, and countless special interest groups that work to advance the agenda of polluters.

She can’t win this fight alone, and that’s why your voice is so important. Please take our survey here >>

Thank you,

Team Wexton

Rep. Jennifer Wexton proudly serves the 10th District of Virginia. She's fighting to create a strong economy, ensure equality for all, and invest in a better future for America.

Can you take our short #NoMiddleGround survey? BERNIE SANDERS.

David -
Last weekend, Bernie gave a rousing speech at the California Democratic Party convention.
He talked about the fact that there can be no “middle ground” on issues like climate change, health care, and putting a stop to our endless wars.
We’ve included a large part of the speech below. But today, what we want to know is this: what are the issues you care about that there can be no middle ground on?
Here’s the part of the speech that went viral:
"We have got to make it clear that when the future of the planet is at stake, there is no “middle ground.” We will take on the fossil fuel industry and transform our energy system.

We have got to make it clear that when this country drifts toward oligarchy, there is no “middle ground.” Large profitable corporations like Amazon will pay their fair share of taxes.

When it comes to health care, there is no “middle ground.” Health care is a human right, not a privilege and we will guarantee health care to all of our people through a Medicare for All single-payer system.

When it comes to abortion, there is no “middle ground.” A woman has the right to control her own life, not the government.

When it comes to prescription drugs, no “middle ground.” We are going to take on the pharmaceutical industry and cut prescription drug prices in half.

And when it comes to mass shootings and the fact that 40,000 people were killed last year with guns, no “middle ground.” We will take on the NRA.

And when it comes to criminal justice reform and immigration reform, no “middle ground.” We will take on the prison-industrial complex. We will take on racism at the border.

And when it comes to foreign policy, no “middle ground.” We will finally put an end to a bloated military budget and end endless wars."
Take the short survey. Tell us the issues that you believe there can be no middle ground on:
This is important. We’ll make sure Bernie gets the results. So thank you for sounding off.
All our best,
Team Bernie

People are literally lining up out the door. AMY KLOBUCHAR.

David,

100 years ago today, Congress passed the 19th Amendment -- which was ratified by the states in 1920 -- stating that the right to vote should not be denied on the basis of sex. We’ve come a long way since then! But we still haven’t had a woman in the White House.

When people ask me if Amy can break this barrier, I tell them that breaking barriers is what she does best. When she first ran for Senate, Minnesota had never elected a woman senator. She had less in the bank than her opponent. But she won that race and every race after that because of her grit, energy and commitment to getting things done.

Now as Amy travels across the country, I see the enthusiasm for her candidacy grow every day. People are literally lining up out the door to hear her speak! And the polling shows her momentum grows with every person who hears her message.

As Amy likes to say, “May the best woman win.”
