BIG Win. U.S. REPRESENTATIVE DAVID CICILLINE.

Dear David,

Earlier this week, my proposal to provide new resources for local manufacturing economies like Rhode Island’s was signed into law.

This is a big win for Rhode Island workers. When they’re given a level playing field, Rhode Islanders will outwork and outperform any competitors. As a result of this new law, which I’ve been pressing my colleagues to pass since I first got to Congress, the Department of Defense will provide long-term investments in critical skills, infrastructure, research and development, and small businesses to strengthen national security innovation.

I’m looking forward to working with our private, public, and non-profit sectors to make sure Rhode Island can take full advantage of this opportunity. I’ll make sure to keep you informed of the work we’re doing.

Roundtable

Earlier today, I hosted a roundtable discussion with Rhode Island millennials to talk about the Democratic plan to clean up corruption in Washington. Democrats are committed to fixing our broken political system and returning to a government of, by, and for the people. That means taking power back from the special interests and making Washington work for the people.

Specifically, Democrats will:

1) Empower American voters by protecting the right to vote and safeguarding our election infrastructure;

2) Strengthen our nation’s ethics laws to end the revolving door in Washington and rein in the influence of lobbyists and big-money donors;

3) And fix our broken campaign system by ending the scourge of “dark money” and passing the DISCLOSE Act.

Providence Fire

Providence Fire Fighters put their lives on the line every day to protect Rhode Islanders. Our brave first responders deserve access to the best equipment and training available to them so that they can do their jobs safely and effectively.

That’s why I’m so pleased that, along with Senators Reed and Whitehouse and Congressman Langevin, I announced nearly $1 million in new federal funding that the Providence Fire Department will use to provide additional training for 173 Fire Fighters. I advocated directly with FEMA to secure this funding, and I’m proud that we delivered results for our first responders. Click here to learn more about this important announcement.

Shannon Bream

Last night, I spoke with Shannon Bream of Fox News about the work that Democrats are going to do if we’re entrusted with a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Democrats are fighting for the people. We know that the American people want a Congress that will drive down the cost of health care, create good-paying jobs and raise family incomes, and end the pervasive corruption in Washington. These are three things that President Trump promised to do. He’s failed to deliver on all three.

Some folks have asked why I even bother to go on Fox News given that much of its audience and its hosts lean to the right. The fact is that if we want to make real progress on the challenges we face, then we have to be willing to have conversations with folks we disagree with. I’m always going to stand strong and fight for the values I believe in, but that doesn’t mean I have to tune out everyone on the other side.

NEW: Speak up for children trafficked in orphanages. FREEDOM UNITED.

Dear David,

Did you know people are profiting from the trafficking and abuse of children in orphanages across the world?

Traffickers and dishonest children's homes are capitalizing on the trend of combining voluntary work with traveling. They encourage families living in poverty to give up or sell their children to orphanages. There, these vulnerable children may be exploited, even abused, malnourished and forced to work. They may even be re-trafficked to other orphanages to repeat the cycle and bring in further donations.

Join us in telling volunteer tour operators to take a stand.

Attracted by the funding orphanages receive from donations and ‘voluntourism’ placements, traffickers turn children into commodities. This means volunteer tour operators are in a powerful position to remove the financial incentive and make a strong statement against orphanage trafficking.

We are not suggesting these organizations have placed, or promoted the placement of, volunteers in orphanages that exploit or traffick children.[1] They have made valuable contributions to the communities they operate in. But now, their support is crucial in breaking the cycle of child trafficking and exploitation in orphanages.

Volunteer tour operators: do your part to end trafficking into orphanages!

An estimated 8 million children live in orphanages worldwide, yet 80% of them have at least one parent or family member who is able to look after them, with additional support if needed.[2] It is clear from these numbers that something doesn’t add up.

  • Sinet Chan in Cambodia was beaten, raped, starved and forced to work on the orphanage director’s rice paddies and farms without pay.[3] Now, she is a strong ambassador for the Cambodian Children's Trust, raising awareness of conditions children face in institutions.[4]
  • The government of Cambodia has set up a pilot program to reintegrate children into families. Last July, it tasked officials with identifying vulnerable children and overseeing their reintegration into families.[5]
  • In Haiti, some families were paid 75 USD to give their children away to orphanages on false promises their children would receive an education, only for them to end up living in slave-like conditions.[6]
  • Vulnerable children being separated from their families and placed in orphanages to attract funding, volunteers and donations from well-meaning tourists is an occurrence reported across Southeast Asia, as well as in Nepal and across Africa.[7][8]

This season, join our call on popular global volunteer tour operators to take action.

In solidarity,

Miriam, Joanna and the whole Freedom United team

P.S. Is somebody close to you planning to undertake a placement? Share this campaign with them to raise awareness of the risks of trafficking and abuse facing children in orphanages.

RECIPE FOR A FASCIST PRESIDENCY: HATE, IGNORANCE, DECEIT, AND A BOGUS ELECTION.

Donald Trump, Liar, Protest, President

How many Times have you seen or heard a Politician reiterate support for a Particular Side of an Issue, but later shift, alter, or completely change the reason for continuing that support? Do we find that such a change causes an immediate uproar among the Politicians Supporters, who shift Their Allegiance Elsewhere?

To a Minor Degree that does occur, but on the whole, the vast majority remain loyal to the Candidate, just switching one explanation for another.

This seems to indicate a Certain Mindset that most POLITICIANS, VOTERS, AND THE NEWS MEDIA REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE DUE TO THE SHORT AND LONG TERM IMPLICATIONS:

THAT MANY AMERICANS ARE LOOKING FOR AN "EXCUSE" TO JUSTIFY THE OPINIONS THEY HAVE ON CERTAIN ISSUES.  IN OTHER WORDS, THE CONCLUSIONS BEING MADE ON PARTICULAR ISSUES ARE NOT THE RESULT OF INTELLECTUAL REFLECTION, LOOKING AT ALL SIDES OF AN ISSUE WITH AN OPEN MIND, BUT WITH PREDETERMINED CONCLUSIONS BASED ON IRRATIONAL ARGUMENTS, WHICH ARE BUILT UPON UNWARRANTED, FALSE, AND MISLEADING PREMISES AND DATA.
THIS IS THE REASONING THAT GIVES US POLITICIANS LIKE DONALD TRUMP, AND IS ONE OF THE TWO MAIN REASONS THAT HE NOW OCCUPIES THE WHITE HOUSE;

1) THE RIGGING/ALTERING OF FINAL VOTE TOTALS IN CERTAIN STATES TO GIVE HIM AN ELECTORAL COLLEGE VICTORY.

2) GIVING EVERY HATE GROUP ALTERNATIVE EXPLANATIONS TO JUSTIFY THEIR VIEWPOINTS. THESE WERE USED WHEN INTERACTING WITH THE MEDIA, OR ANSWERING QUESTIONS POSED BY POLITICAL OPPONENTS.

AS WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST, THESE "EXPLANATIONS" WORK IF YOUR OPPONENTS, OR THOSE WHO COVER AND REPORT THE NEWS, LACK THE COURAGE, DISCIPLINE, OR WHEREWITHAL TO CHALLENGE THE OFTEN BOGUS, FALSE, OR INACCURATE CONCLUSIONS BEING MADE TO PROMOTE AN AGENDA OF HATE...

...AND IT SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE AN ELECTION, NOT AFTER...
