Country Over Party Newsletter – June Edition. CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE KEN HARBAUGH.

Dear David,

Summer is heating up and so is our campaign! As usual, Ken and the team have been meeting with people all across the district. Here are some June and July updates:

Last month, Ken caught up with a couple old friends. Former Vice President Joe Biden stopped over in Cleveland to swap stories from the campaign trail with Ken and Sherrod Brown.

You may have seen Team Harbaugh volunteers in your neighborhood recently in their bright red t-shirts. As Ken says, one of the most important things a representative can do is SHOW UP! That’s why Ken is meeting as many of his neighbors as he can. So if you see us in your town parade or local coffee shop, come up and say “Hi!”

We’re rolling on with a Country Over Party Town Hall tour all across the OH7.Last week, Ken moderated a panel in North Ridgeville with three phenomenal veterans—Sam Felton of Lorain (USMC), Dean Marks of the Elyria Fire Department (Army Reserve), and Congressman Seth Moulton from the House Armed Services Committee (USMC). The group got together to discuss the unique obstacles that veterans face when returning to civilian life.

Over the next few weeks, Ken is holding Country Over Party Town Halls in Centerburg, Willard, Ontario and Coshocton. We’ve got a bunch of public events planned in all 10 counties. Check out our Team Harbaugh events page here.

Ken talks about winning this race one cup of coffee and one conversation at a time. Most days, you can find him connecting directly with voters and listening to the issues that matter to all of us. Interested in attending or hosting a Koffee with Ken? Give us a call at (440) 345-6563 or see when Ken will be making a stop near you

We opened up a new field office in Ashland! We thought we would be running this campaign out of Ken and Annmarie's kitchen FOREVER. But with your help, we’ve been able to open offices throughout the district to talk to more Ohioans about the important issues that matter to them.

This summer is jam-packed with festivals, fairs, and fun with the Team Harbaugh family in all 10 counties of the OH7. Don’t be a stranger—come on out and join us!

In service,

Emily Heustis

We have an Australian Bill! JOANNA EWART-JAMES, FREEDOM UNITED.

Dear David,

Australia’s Modern Slavery Bill has now been introduced into parliament! We have been waiting for this moment since launching our campaign last October, so how is it looking?

View our campaign for a strong Modern Slavery Act.

We are delighted that the Bill demands transparency from companies to show how they stop the exploitation of vulnerable workers. This is a requirement that goes beyond the UK’s Modern Slavery Act, which doesn’t make any requirements on the detail to be included in the report.

The Australia Bill also covers public procurement. This could make Australia the first country with a nationwide responsibility on governments to consider their impact on modern slavery when spending billions of dollars on public services.

Great progress but more to do!

The government has committed to passing the Bill and making it law by the end of this year! That means we have six months to support efforts to make it a strong law.

We are not finished yet! The Act should make provisions that:

-       Ensure victims of slavery have the support and protection they need
-       Broaden the number of companies caught by the new provisions
-       Provide for the appointment of an Anti-Slavery Commissioner

Our partners at Stop the Traffik Australia and the BeSlaveFree coalition have been able toss our petition to strengthen their hand in the many discussions they have with government ministers, officials and parliamentarians.

If you haven't added your name yet, please add it now!

The petition shows those making the law that the world is watching. We want Australia to make the most of this opportunity to help end modern slavery in a region that has the highest numbers of people in slavery and from where many Australian companies source their products – Asia.

In solidarity,

Joanna, Miriam and the whole team at Freedom United

THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY. CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE MAURA SULLIVAN.

Happy 4th of July, David!

I hope your holiday is off to a great start. This is a holiday that holds particular importance for me. I have many special memories celebrating our country’s birthday-- probably the one that stands out the most was with my team of Marines in Iraq in 2005. It was a busy day, but we took a few minutes in the morning together to pause and read The Declaration of Independence-- a reminder to all of us of the great nation we were defending-- and her values of equality, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I hope that you have some time today to make new and happy memories with family and friends, and celebrate the 242nd birthday of our great country. We have so much to be proud of and grateful for.

Thank you so much, and happy 4th of July to you and your family!
