DONALD TRUMP:  One of the best indicators for an individual who lacks the capacity to feel Empathy, is for the individual to constantly turn the suffering of others into a case where they are also victimized, usually to a greater extent. The Reasoning is usually apparently self-serving and an obvious attempt to turn the attention on them. The actions of the Individual are solely to benefit them, and when the negative effects on others are pointed out, they will play the victim card over and over again. THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING WRONG, SO WHY SHOULD THEY FEEL BAD? EMPATHY IS FOR THOSE WITH A GUILTY CONSCIENCE. (OF COURSE, THAT ASSUMES THAT YOU HAVE A CONSCIENCE THAT HAS A CAPACITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PAIN OTHERS MAY BE GOING THROUGH.)

Another good measure of the inability to feel Empathy, is the ease of throwing aside friends or allies. Emotionally stable Humans are capable of forming Bonds of Love, Trust, and Friendship that will affect how we judge or interact with certain individuals. We tend to treat those who are positive impacts in our lives with a more Sympathetic, Compassionate, and Dutiful frame of mind when deciding what judgments and behaviors are appropriate when interacting. The Individual incapable of EMPATHY has a tendency to treat everyone the same. It is a ME AGAINST EVERYONE ELSE ATTITUDE. YOU ARE HIS FRIEND, OR HIS ENEMY, NO MIDDLE GROUND.

EMPATHY- is, basically, the Capacity of each individual to have Negative Emotional Reactions and Feelings when causing or witnessing Physical or Emotional Harm to another. (This is especially true if the individual is in some way responsible for the situation.) Empathy may also be triggered by the individual being able to alleviate the suffering, even though the root cause may lie elsewhere. 

Since Emotionally Healthy Humans tend to avoid certain situations that will cause them Emotional or Physical Harm, Individuals “EMPATHIZE” with those who are suffering from Actions, Events, or Situations that they themselves would be experiencing given different circumstances in their own lives.

The Student was ready. He had passed all the Exams, and was considered to be the Brightest and Most Capable of them all.

Yet, much Troubled him. His Teachers, Instructors, and Counselors were Highly Accomplished, and he had learned much. However, as he faced Graduation, his Life Path was still not Charted.

Told of all the Things he could do, and the paths he might take, it was Frustrating not to be able to single one out. Finally, he Decided what to do, and it shocked those close to him.

Many Years Before, there had lived in the area an Individual of such Wisdom, that All sought his Counsel. Teacher or Student, Man or Woman, it mattered not. All came to ask advice, for Failure never seemed to find him. It was said that his Intellect was so great, that to Limit it to the Classroom or Public Forum, would be a Crime against Reason.

However, as the Years Passed, the "Wise One," as all came to address him, grew so Exhausted by the constant Demand on his Time, that he left the City one Morning, to live a Solitary Life in the Mountains. He had acquired enough Wealth through the Years, (Gifts from Grateful Individuals whom he had Helped), to arrange for Food and other Supplies to be Delivered at a Specific Location, which he could pick up at his leisure. Family and friends grieve the loss of our beloved Ronald (Ron) Lee Barnette who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80 on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Ron was born on July 7, 1942, in Compton, Los Angeles, California, to Max and Eileen Barnette. The family later settled in Ukiah, California, before making Laguna Beach, CA their permanent home. Ron graduated from Ukiah High School in 1960. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from California State University - Long Beach in 1967. He also attended Berkeley University and the University of Oxford during the course of his educational development. He obtained his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California – Irvine in 1972, before beginning his teaching career. His areas of specialization were Logic and Critical Thinking, Applied Ethics, Philosophy of Technology and Education, Philosophy of Science, Minds and Machines. Ron was a long-time resident of Valdosta, Georgia, where he served as Head of the Philosophy Department at Valdosta State University and taught for over 30 years. Throughout his career, Ron was actively involved in the American Philosophical Association (APA). Ron was a pioneer in utilizing the internet for online teaching and supporting research efforts, recognized by numerous awards for his formative innovations. Ron also earned the lifetime designation of Professor Emeritus.

Ron was a member of “The Castells”, a Southern California vocal group in the early 1960’s. Throughout his life, Ron was an author of and contributor to numerous professional publications. Ron and his wife also co-wrote the fictional psychological mystery One More, published in 2020. Ron was an enthusiastic reader and loved classic cars, having been an amateur drag racer in his youth.

Ron was a loving and devoted husband and father. Together with his wife of 49 and a half years, Candy McKibben Barnette, they lived a rich and full life traveling and hosting extraordinary social gatherings in their home and in the community. Ron loved to entertain and had a devilish sense of humor and wit, which led to a lifetime of laughter.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Max, his mother, Eileen, and his brother Gregg. He is survived by his wife Candy, his son Daron Wiemeyer, his daughters Blair Barnette (Cem) and Rebecca Barnette Bernier (Mark), and granddaughter Anna Elizabeth Bernier, and by his aunt Gay Harter, and cousins Darcy Thornborrow, Danny and Doug Meester, Dennis and Wesley Morrissey, Debi Hempel and Rocky Harter, and his sweet, furry feline companion, Kibbie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ron’s name made to the Dunedin History Museum, Dunedin International Film Festival (DIFF), Dunedin Library, Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC), and Dunedin Cares, Inc., are appreciated. I was asked to submit an answer to a question posed on Quora.com. I think it fits in with previous posts on this topic.

The following is a very brief answer to a complex question, so I attempted to make it as reader-friendly as possible.

Why did God lie to so many Evangelical "Christian" leaders, who said God had told them personally that Republicans would win midterms? Is God a liar?

You have to remember, people can sometimes hear what they want to hear, especially in matters of faith.

RELIGIOUS FAITH, by definition, requires NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE, LOGICAL PROOF, OR SCIENTIFIC JUSTIFICATION to convince a true believer. That is why the U.S. CONSTITUTION was so specific about keeping INDIVIDUAL FAITH FROM BECOMING LAW. (Something the current Scotus is trying to implement) If you decide that Faith alone is a proper justification for the creation of a Legal System, you are left with the following:

A legal System based on Majority Rule, where Legislators and Judges are free to make arbitrary decisions based on personal moral codes of conduct, which can then be wiped out as soon as another steps in.

Concepts such as INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS, SOCIAL JUSTICE, CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR, etc., mean whatever those in charge want them to mean. No Consistency or Legal Precedent can be enforced, because RELIGIOUS FAITH REQUIRES ADHERENCE TO ECCLESIASTICAL AUTHORITY, NOT CIVIL AUTHORITY.

In the end, GOD didn’t lie to them, they just misinterpreted the message, or failed to understand that what THEY BELIEVED TO BE A DIVINE MESSAGE, WAS JUST A DESIRE BASED ON PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

One of my favorite sayings about Religious Faith, a sort of catch-all for a situation like this:

Question: “Does God answer all Prayers?”

Answer: “Yes, but sometimes the answer is no.”

So a person of Faith may have prayed for a specific outcome in the election…

Donald Trump:

 -  Making accusations of election fraud in

   2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022 with no evidence.

-  Using threats of violence against opponents

   and the American People.

-  Not denying things he's done, but complaining

   about being held accountable.

  - Using Communist Revolution Hand Signals.

 -  Praising and Protecting Vladimir Putin.

 - Ignoring Nazi and Confederate Flags 

    and symbols used by his supporters.

“I have not conceded, we all know why. That is all,” Mark Finchem, the QAnon-promoting, Oath Keeper-repping GOP candidate for Arizona Secretary of State tweeted after he lost. Finchem was among the last of former President Donald Trump’s cadre of election-denying candidates to have his race called last week. He lost to Democrat Adrian Fontes, a lawyer and former Maricopa County recorder. I reached out to Fontes to see how he felt about bringing down one of 2022’s democracy-threatening candidates.

What message do you think Arizona voters were sending in your win over Mark Finchem? 

Arizona voters told its government, “we’re ok with elections the way they are now. We don’t want major changes. We don’t want hand counts. We’re ok with machines the way they are. We don’t want the Big Lie any more. We just want to vote, find out who won, who lost.” That’s what my mandate is. 

Why do you say it’s time to do away with the term “election deniers” to describe people who falsely say Biden didn’t win in 2020? 

Calling them election deniers gives them too much breathing room. It minimizes the threat in using that label. It’s as if we’re trying to be politically correct against the political aggressor and I don’t believe in that type of appeasement. Call the traitor a traitor. Call the seditionist a seditionist. Call the authoritarian an authoritarian. Why let them off the hook? We’re gonna hurt their feelings?

Sometimes bad guys don’t like being called bad guys. And just because they’re sensitive does mean they’re not a-holes. 

Huh. I’m not sure I’ve heard that from any other candidate. Pro-democracy candidates seemed to do pretty well in the midterms. But a lot of them at times seemed to struggle to find clear and salient language about what was at stake for democracy. 

We came up with a slogan around this. “Sabemos lo que es perderlo.” ”We know what it’s like to lose it.” We used it in all our Spanish-language radio and TV ads. The idea that we know what it’s like to lose it is real from a cultural context and the cultural history of Latinos and Native Americans in Arizona. 

It was hard to justify a basic translation about democracy that was relevant to the cultural DNA of “pioneers” or “trailblazers.” It doesn’t have the same cultural heft if you were the child of a family that was here already when the pioneers showed up. Or if you’re an immigrant from some other Latin American country because you ran away from authoritarianism or totalitarianism.  

I felt it as a Hispanic man in the US. I wanted to hold myself to a higher standard because I’m not just representing a party or a brand, but myself. And I wanted to do it right with something better than a rote translation.

Mark Finchem and others on the right are now debasing the election, calling for a redo, and demanding it not be certified. It appears election denialism isn’t going anywhere in Arizona, even as you get ready to take over.

They don’t like being pushed back against. You saw his reactions on Twitter. I don’t follow him because I don’t give a shit what he has to say, but he was melting down. People of strength don’t usually do that. He’s very weak, and it shows. The Republicans who voted for me saw it. As for their demands, I don’t occupy myself with nonsense until there’s something real to deal with. This election was a good election and was run well. We’ll have a canvass in a week or so, we may have one or two recounts, but we’ll move on. And democracy has survived.

When Florida lawmakers decided to violate the First Amendment rights of students and faculty members like Sam Rechek and Adriana Novoa, we said “we’ll see you in court.” Today, a federal court stopped enforcement of key parts of the “Stop WOKE Act,” calling the law “positively dystopian” and ruling that it violates the First Amendment because it censors viewpoints on Florida’s college campuses. Citing George Orwell, the court criticized the state’s power grab “to muzzle its professors in the name of ‘freedom.’”   VIDEO: FIRE attorney Greg Greubel explains the implications of today’s update.   The law turns professors into mouthpieces of the government, snatching away their ability to offer any viewpoint not endorsed by the state — even for the sake of argument. It also limits their ability to teach on concepts related to race and sex and requires faculty to censor guest lecturers. Adriana and Sam joined with FIRE in September to challenge the law. Adriana, a University of South Florida professor, would have been required to remove course readings — including one on Jackie Robinson and segregation for her course on sports history — to comply with the law. IT JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER. 2022 FLORIDA U.S. SENATE ELECTION. (Yes, these are unofficial, but I doubt the official results will alter my opinion)

Before the election, if I were to guarantee that the incumbent Marco Rubio would receive 360,789 less votes, (about 7.5%) , than he did in 2016, I bet you would be pretty confident if you were a Democrat,

Right? 

REPUBLICAN VOTE COUNT.

2016- 4,835,191

2022- 4,474,402.

Oh... no...no...no this is Florida. 

You see the Democratic Candidate, Val Demings, received 921,507 less votes, (About 22.4%), than the Democratic Candidate did in 2016.

DEMOCRAT VOTE COUNT.

2016- 4,122,088

2022- 3,200,581

Initial thoughts- I'll hand Florida this, you can be a White Male running for Governor, or a Black Female running for the U.S. Senate, it doesn't matter: YOU DON'T STAND A CHANCE WHEN IT COMES TO ATTAINING OFFICE IN THE U.S. SENATE, OR HOLDING THE TOP OFFICE IN THE STATE, IF YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT. (THE SAME GOES FOR CARRYING FLORIDA IN A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.)

Just a short while ago, Donald Trump announced his intention to run for the presidency again.

Five years ago, you and the ACLU showed up in force against then-President Trump's cruel and hateful policies: With your support, we filed 424 legal actions against the Trump administration in 4 years. And if Trump thinks a second term would let him continue the unconstitutional and un-American policies of his first term, we'll be ready to fight back again at every turn. Count on it.

Our litigation and advocacy served as a bulwark against the worst abuses of the Trump administration – from family separation to the Muslim ban to efforts to purge immigrants from the U.S. Census.

We are still doing clean-up on the lasting impact of Trump policies to this day – particularly at the U.S.-Mexico border. Moreover, Trump appointees on the federal bench have also notably done their best to gut abortion rights, limit voting rights, and strip immigrants and LGBTQ individuals of their basic rights.

So let me be clear: While we remain engaged in these critical battles for people's rights today – at all levels of government and nationwide – the ACLU will also be battle-ready for a second Trump administration.
