AMERICAN PHILOSPHICAL ASSOCIATION: Calls for Proposals: The AAPT-APA Teaching Hub at the 2021 Eastern Division meeting.

American Philosophical Association

Dear DAVID,

The APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy (CTP) and the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT) invite proposals for Teaching Hub sessions at the 2021 Eastern Division meeting in New York, NY, January 4–7.

Note: Currently, all three APA divisions are planning to hold in-person meetings in 2021. At the same time, we are also considering alternative formats, such as virtual meetings, as contingencies in the case that our usual meeting format becomes impossible. Though external forces like the ongoing pandemic affect and inform our plans, your participation is the most critical input for planning any meeting. If you are considering submitting a proposal, we encourage you to do so.

The AAPT-APA Teaching Hub is a series of interactive workshops and conversations designed specifically for philosophers and created to celebrate teaching within the context of the APA divisional meetings. Jointly organized by the CTP and the AAPT, the Teaching Hub aims to offer a range of high-quality and inclusive development opportunities that address the teaching of philosophy at all levels, pre-college through graduate school.

Please consider submitting a proposal for one of more of the following sessions at the 2021 Eastern Division meeting by July 17:
The complete calls for proposals are available on the APA website. Information about the Teaching Hub poster session will be available soon.

For general information about the AAPT-APA Teaching Hub, please visit the AAPT website and the CTP webpage. For specific information about the Teaching Hub at the 2021 Eastern Division meeting in New York, NY, please contact Rebecca Millsop (rmillsop@uri.edu).

We look forward to receiving your proposals.

All the best,

David W. ConcepciĆ³n
Chair, APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy

P.S. Please note that all APA meeting participants are required to register for each meeting they attend.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: THE 2016 ELECTION: "INFLUENCING" AN ELECTION, AND "RIGGING" AN ELECTION ARE TWO DIFFERENT ISSUES. PART 1.

Deceive, Deception, Lies, Magnifying Glass, Philosophy

SOMETIMES IT IS AGGRAVATING TO POINT OUT THE SAME THING, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. HOWEVER, WHEN YOU HAVE SO MANY INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS DESPERATELY TRYING TO IGNORE THE OBVIOUS, IT BECOMES EVEN MORE NECESSARY TO FIND THE TRUTH, OR WE MAY BE ALLOWING THE CULPABLE, IRRESPONSIBLE, OR INCOMPETENT A VICTORY IN DECEIT.  THAT IS A PRECEDENT MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANY FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC ENEMY COULD EVER BE.

FOR THOSE WHO MAY BE UNAWARE OF WHAT I AM REFERRING TO, PLEASE GO TO
MY ARTICLES AND POSTS THAT ADDRESS THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. THE ARGUMENTS AND CONCLUSIONS I HAVE MADE ABOUT THE VALIDITY, ACCURACY, AND LEGALITY OF THE "OFFICIAL" RESULTS ARE LAID OUT, SO IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DO THAT HERE.

THIS POST IS TO POINT OUT A MAJOR DIFFERENCE IN HOW THE ELECTION IS BEING ANALYZED AND REPORTED, ESPECIALLY WHEN REFERRING TO POSSIBLE ILLEGAL ACTIONS TAKEN BY INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO GET A DESIRED OUTCOME.  THE OUTCOME BEING THE ELECTION OF THEIR PREFERRED CANDIDATE.

BASICALLY IT COMES DOWN TO THE FOLLOWING:

OBTAINING INFORMATION ILLEGALLY, AND PROVIDING IT TO ONE SIDE IN AN ELECTION, TO HARM THE OTHER BY ATTEMPTING TO INFLUENCE VOTERS...

AND

PHYSICALLY ALTERING VOTING COUNTS THROUGH THE BALLOT BOX, OR COMPUTER, SO THAT ONE CANDIDATE EMERGES VICTORIOUS...

...ARE SEPERATE AND DISTINCT ACTIONS. THE TRUTH OF ONE IS NOT DEPENDENT ON THE OTHER. THEY MAY BOTH BE TRUE, OR BOTH FALSE. ONE MAY BE TRUE, AND THE OTHER FALSE. WE MUST NOT ALLOW EVIDENCE, OR LACK OF, IN ONE CASE TO BE USED IN JUDGING THE OTHER.
