Lindsey Graham just claimed that nurses would quit their jobs and abandon their patients because of “new benefits” in the Coronavirus relief bill.

Let’s be clear: these are not “new benefits.” This is an emergency relief effort during a national pandemic.

Lindsey is completely out of touch with our brave nurses who are putting their lives on the line and sacrificing everything during this crisis. If it wasn’t clear before, it sure is now: South Carolina needs a leader who understands what regular folks are going through during these trying times.

Lindsey has made it clear he doesn’t care about the American people. He’d rather help out his wealthy donors than hard-working families...

We need a leader like Jaime Harrison.

ETHICS AND MORALITY- WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FORGIVE? PARTS 1-2.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FORGIVE? PT 1.

It is Suppose to be one of the Most "HUMANE" Acts one Person can do for another.  That no Matter How Much you have been hurt by SOMEONE ELSE, be it MENTAL , PHYSICAL, OR BOTH, TO "FORGIVE" THE ACTIONS AGAINST YOU IS CONSIDERED TO BE NOBLE AND VIRTUOUS. 

Yet, at the same Time, even though "FORGIVENESS" IS SUPPOSE TO BE A VOLUNTARY DECISION BY THE "VICTIM",  IF IT IS NOT OFFERED, THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN HARMED IS CONSIDERED TO HAVE COMMITTED A MORAL TRANSGRESSION AGAINST THE ONE WHO VICTIMIZED THEM.

It is a Fascinating example of how Some People Believe that taking the "HIGH ROAD", especially if They are Talking about someone elses Victimization, must be part of the ROAD TO RECOVERY IN OVERCOMING THE PAIN AND ANGUISH THAT HAS BEEN INFLICTED ON THEM.

HOWEVER, JUST WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FORGIVE ANOTHER?  Does it Mean the Same Thing to Everyone, or DOES THE DEFINITION OF "FORGIVENESS" CHANGE DEPENDING ON THOSE INVOLVED, OR PERHAPS THE SITUATION/EVENT THAT LED UP TO SUCH A DECISION POSSIBLY BEING MADE.

Lets Create a Basic Example.

-  An Individual Decides to Act in a Way that is considered a FREE CHOICE.

-  This Action may result in the Direct Harming of Another, and it is 

a possibility that any Reasonable Person would be aware of.

-  Ignoring the Possible Consequences, the Individual Acts, and Harm

comes to someone else, who in no way contributed to the NEGATIVE 

RESULT that has been Inflicted on Them.

STOPPING HERE, UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES OR DEVELOPMENTS WOULD YOU CONSIDER "FORGIVENESS" AS A JUSTIFIED EXPECTATION OF THE "TRANSGRESSOR",  AND A MORAL REQUIREMENT OF THE "VICTIM?"  IF SO, WHAT WOULD "FORGIVENESS" CONSIST OF...

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FORGIVE? PT 2.

I Ended Part 1 with an example, and a "WHAT WOULD YOU DO?" Question.  However, You may have noticed that Answering such a Challenge isn't easy. Nor should it be. "FORGIVENESS" is not the Simplistic Concept Many would have you believe, for it contains Different Elements and Levels that are Unique to each Situation.

Those who believe that Short and Quick Resolutions are the Answer to Resolving Conflicts, sometime begin Their Advice with words like the following;

-  "He's really sorry for what he did, you should forgive him."

-  "She's not like that usually, it won't happen again, don't worry about it."

-  "You pushed the Wrong Buttons, you know how they are.  Watch it 

next time."

THIRD PARTY INDIVIDUALS are usually the ones to offer such "ADVICE."  Either by Design, Ignorance, or Fear, They seek to place the BURDEN OF RESOLVING THE SITUATION ON THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN HARMED, OFTEN WITHOUT ANY SANCTIONS AGAINST THOSE WHO HAVE CAUSED THE SUFFERING. 

It is just another CASE OF BLAMING THE VICTIM.

So where do We Start?  How and When should "FORGIVENESS" BE OFFERED, AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES?

How about Defining "FORGIVE."

THIS IS THE DEFINITION TAKEN FROM THE MERRIAM- WEBSTER DICTIONARY.

: to stop feeling anger toward (someone who has done something wrong) : to stop blaming (someone)

: to stop feeling anger about (something) : to forgive someone for (something wrong)

THIS IS TAKEN FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA- BERKELEY "GREATER GOOD."  THE SCIENCE OF A MEANINGFUL LIFE, WEBSITE.

What Is Forgiveness?

Psychologists generally define forgiveness as a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group who has harmed you, regardless of whether they actually deserve your forgiveness.

These Definitions are fairly close to others I came across, and all have Basically the same things in common.

HOWEVER, THERE ARE TWO IMPORTANT THINGS THAT SHOULD BE NOTICED:

-  BOTH DEFINITIONS REQUIRE NOTHING FROM THE INDIVIDUAL(S) WHO HAVE CAUSED THE PHYSICAL OR MENTAL TRAUMA.

-  BOTH USE THE TERM "FEELINGS,"  AS A NEGATIVE DESCRIPTION REGARDING HOW THE VICTIM CONTINUES TO PERCEIVE THE PERSON AND ACTIONS THAT HAVE HURT THEM.

THIS LEADS US TO THE FOLLOWING:

IS "FORGIVENESS" JUST ANOTHER FORM OF "ACCEPTANCE" , SINCE NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN THE DYNAMIC BETWEEN THE "VICTIM" AND THE "PERPETRATOR?"

WHY IS CONTINUING TO JUDGE THOSE WHO HAVE HARMED YOU SOMETHING THAT MUST BE OVERCOME, IF THE INDIVIDUAL(S) INVOLVED HAVE NOT ALTERED THEIR PERSONAL BEHAVIOR, WHICH MAY CONTINUE TO CAUSE PAIN AND SUFFERING TO YOU AND OTHERS?

HERE ARE THE RESULTS FROM 2012 AND 2016                       

ELECTION RESULTS FOR PRESIDENT.                                      

PENNSYLVANIA- 2012 ELECTION. TOTAL # OF DEMOCRAT\REPUBLICAN VOTES: 5,670,708.

TOTAL DEMOCRATIC VOTES- 2,990,274.

TOTAL REPUBLICAN VOTES- 2,680,434.

MARGIN OF DEMOCRATIC VICTORY- 309,840 VOTES.

PENNSYLVANIA- 2016 ELECTION.  TOTAL # OF DEMOCRATIC/REPUBLICAN VOTES: 5,897,174.  UP +226,466 VOTES FROM 2012 ELECTION.

TOTAL DEMOCRATIC VOTES- 2,926,441 VOTES, LOSS OF 63,833 VOTES FROM 2012 ELECTION.

TOTAL REPUBLICAN VOTES-  2,970,733 VOTES, GAIN OF +290,299 VOTES.

HERE IS A BREAKDOWN:

The TOTAL # OF  DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN VOTES INCREASED +226,466 votes from

2012-2016.

THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY LOST 63,833 VOTES BETWEEN 2012 AND 2016, OR ABOUT -2.1%. In itself, that's 

not a drastic decline. It would be considered a result that is well within normal expectations.

HOWEVER, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NUMBERS ARE ANOTHER MATTER. AN INCREASE OF +290,299 VOTES REPRESENTS ABOUT AN + 10.8% INCREASE.

This number, (+290,299), is more than 4 times the number 

of votes that the Democrats lost.

TO ACHIEVE THE TOTAL OF 2,970,733 VOTES IN 2016, THE REPUBLICAN PARTY NEEDED A SCENARIO LIKE THE FOLLOWING TO HAPPEN:

EVERY SINGLE VOTER WHO CAST A BALLOT FOR THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE IN 2012, HAD TO DO SO AGAIN IN 2016: 2,680,434 VOTES.

EVERY NEW VOTER WHO CAST A BALLOT FOR EITHER THE DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, HAD TO CHOOSE REPUBLICAN: +226,466 VOTES.

THAT TOTAL= 2,906,900 IS STILL SHORT OF THE "OFFICIAL" TOTAL OF 2,970,733 VOTES.

HOW COULD THIS BE? THE REPUBLICANS WERE STILL 63,833 VOTES SHORT OF THE FINAL NUMBER. WELL, GO BACK A FEW PARAGRAPHS AND CHECK OUT THE NUMBER OF VOTES THE DEMOCRATS LOST FROM 2012-2016= -63,833.

TO ACHIEVE A TOTAL OF 2,970,733 VOTES IN 2016, HERE IS RUNDOWN OF WHAT

THE REPUBLICANS NEEDED TO HAPPEN:

EVERY REPUBLICAN VOTER FROM 2012, RETURNS AND VOTES REPUBLICAN AGAIN IN 2016: 2,680,434.

EVERY NEW VOTER WHO SELECTS EITHER DEM.\REP. IN 2016, CHOOSES REP.: 226,466.

EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE 63,833 VOTERS THE DEM. PARTY LOST BETWEEN 2012- 2016, RETURNS TO THE POLLS AND VOTES REPUBLICAN.

2,680,434 + 226,466 + 63,833 = 2,970,733.

THIS IS LUDICROUS. NO REASONABLE INDIVIDUAL WHO LOOKS AT THESE NUMBERS COULD TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. 

THIS ELECTION WAS A SHAM.

A PROGRESSIVE LEGACY
Over the last Eight Years we have seen Progressive Democrats support
an Economic Policy that included;

-  An increase in the Federal Minimum Wage of 7.25/ hr.
Which was opposed, and killed, by Congressional Republicans.
( However, on the State Level, there are examples of Minimum Wage
Guidelines that the Republican Party couldn't stop).

-  Expanding the Time Period for receiving Unemployment Benefits, to
   Temporarily Relieve Financial Distress associated with Job loss.

-  Financial Relief for crippling costs incurred through Higher Education.

-  Consumer Laws protecting Americans from predatory practices by
    Dishonest Marketers.

    Of course, this list does not include the AFFORDABLE CARE ACT,
    which resulted in Millions of Americans obtaining Medical Care
    Insurance that would not result in Crippling Debt, or a Dramatic
    Decrease in Their Quality of Life. 

The Republicans, besides attempting to stop all of the above, stuck with
the old "TRICKLE DOWN THEORY" OF ECONOMICS. Let's see what
that included:

TAX BREAK INCENTIVES, WHICH ALLOWED CORPORATIONS, AND WEALTHIEST 

AMERICANS, TO RETAIN MORE OF THEIR WEALTH, WITH THE HOPE THAT THEY WILL
PUMP THAT MONEY BACK INTO THE ECONOMY.

TO RECEIVE THIS INCENTIVE, ARE THEY
REQUIRED TO:

-  INVEST IN SPECIFIC INDUSTRIES THAT ARE STRUGGLING?- NO.

-  FINANCIALLY SUPPORT, OR RESTRUCTURE CORPORATIONS TO PROVIDE A LIVING
   WAGE, OR A MEDICAL PLAN FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES?- NO.

-  ONLY SUPPORT AMERICAN BUSINESSES, INSTEAD OF TAKING THE
    FINANCIAL WINDFALL OVERSEAS?-  NO.

THESE TAX BREAKS ARE BASED ON THE "HOPE" THAT THEY WILL BE USED
TO BENEFIT THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE.

However, don't worry. If these incentives are used unwisely, and the MONEY DISAPPEARS,
ALL IS NOT LOST. CORPORATIONS FORMED ARE PLACED INTO BANKRUPTCY,
MEANING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE FOOTING THE BILL FOR POOR MONEY
MANAGEMENT.  AS FOR THE WEALTHY INDIVIDUALS WHO RECEIVED THE
TAX BREAK BENEFITS, AND LOST THE MONEY? THEY WILL JUST DECLARE THESE
LOSSES ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL TAX RETURNS, AND BASICALLY GET IT ALL BACK.

THE REPUBLICANS- WHO ARE THEY FIGHTING FOR AGAIN?
