APA Eastern Division meeting: Call for volunteers.

American Philosophical Association

Dear DAVID,

We still have some volunteer opportunities available for the 2019 Eastern Division meeting of the American Philosophical Association to be held January 7–10 in New York, NY.

Volunteers will be asked to work no more than three shifts of up to six hours (including daytime as well as some evenings) during the meeting. Volunteers will assist with registering attendees, managing registration lines, staffing exhibits, checking badges, and answering attendee questions. We will provide training prior to your first shift.

Volunteers will receive free registration for the entire meeting so that you can attend any sessions you wish outside of your scheduled shifts, as well as receptions. We will also provide meals during your shifts.

If you are interested in volunteering, complete our volunteer sign-up form by Thursday, December 20. There are only a few volunteer openings available, and the positions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

We look forward to seeing you in New York!

All the best,

Melissa Smallbrook
Meeting Coordinator

P.S. The discounted APA Group Rates at the meeting hotel are only available through December 10. Make your hotel reservations today!

"Respecting" Donald Trump. A short message.

*This is for the Television talk show hacks who are upset that we don't say "PRESIDENT" DONALD TRUMP  when addressing the occupant of the oval office, I have this response:

DONALD TRUMP WAS GIVEN THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT IN A SHAM ELECTION, FULL OF BOGUS RESULTS THAT WERE APPARENT TO ANYONE ACTUALLY PAYING ATTENTION. THE DISHONESTY OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, AND THE DO NOTHING ATTITUDE OF THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP HAS BROUGHT US THE DISASTER WE ARE NOW LIVING THROUGH.

DONALD TRUMPS BEHAVIOR, ATTITUDE, AND PERFORMANCE WHILE IN OFFICE HAS PROVEN ONE THING: HE CARES VERY LITTLE FOR THE WELL BEING OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, PREFERRING TO ALLY HIMSELF WITH EXTREMIST HATE GROUPS IN THE U.S., AND FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS THAT FEED HIS MEGALOMANIA.

DONALD TRUMP WILL GET RESPECT WHEN HE EARNS IT.

A GROWING THREAT. VIRGINIA ATTORNEY GENERAL MARK HERRING.

One Commonwealth PAC
David:

No matter what we look like, where we come from, how we worship or who we love, we are all Virginians. Each one of us is an important part of our Virginia family who deserves to feel safe and welcome.

To me, that's a Virginia value.
That's why I have been working so hard over the last few years to address the frightening rise in hate crimes and white supremacist violence. It's happening here in Virginia, where more than 200 hate crimes were reported in 2017, and all across the country, with the FBI recently reporting a 17% increase in hate crimes nationwide.

We must make it absolutely clear that hate will never be allowed to take hold here in Virginia.

We must reject racism, anti-Semitism and white supremacist ideology, supporters of which have become so emboldened and so dangerous in recent years.
Last weekend, I wrote about the threat of white supremacist violence in The Washington Postand also explained some of the new legislation I'm introducing to better protect Virginians from hate crimes and white supremacist violence.

I hope you'll take a minute to read it and share with your friends and neighbors. We must all stand together, side by side, to repel the forces of hatred, racism and fear.

Thanks,

Mark

SURVEY FROM THE APA TASK FORCE ON DISABILITY.

American Philosophical Association

(if any of my readers has information relating to this subject, you can e-mail me at macblazer1981@aol.com. Any correspondence will be  treated with strict confidentiality.)

Dear DAVID,

Please complete the attached survey concerning barriers for disabled people in philosophy that you may have experienced or that you may be aware that others have experienced. The results will be used by the APA Task Force on the Status of Disabled Philosophers in the Profession to develop a future quantitative survey.

The survey will ask you to identify and/or describe current practices of professional philosophy—publishing research, presenting research, conferences, career structure, technology, materials (books, journals, etc.), teaching, studying, service, participating in the philosophical community, etc.—that impose burdens or barriers on individuals due to disability.

The survey will close on December 31, 2018.

Thank you for your attention and time.

Sincerely,

Adam Cureton
