A TRIP TO GETTYSBURG, AND WHAT IT MEANT TO ME.

Thoughts after my trip to GETTYSBURG.

"When you go home, tell them of us and say,

for their tomorrow, we gave our today."

- John Maxwell Edmonds.

As I walked the Fields and Grounds where so many died to preserve

and defend the Greatest Political Experiment in Human History, and

end an Indefensible Evil, the above words kept coming back to me. Yes, they

were written after the American Civil War, and have applications to many

conflicts, but they mean so much given the upcoming U.S. Election.

My God, to think of the Sacrifice so many have made over the course of U.S.

History being Ignored and Rejected by the idea of placing a Convicted Criminal

and Traitor who tried to overthrow the U.S. CONSTITUTION AND A LEGALLY

ELECTED GOVERNMENT IS BEYOND DISTURBING. IT IS VILE AND DISGUSTING.

Remembering the Honored Fallen is more than just something that should be recognized

a few days on the Calendar. It is preserving the Rights, Protections, and Freedoms that

was worth giving all that they had to give.

DON'T LET THEM DOWN.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: WHAT IS RULE #1? DONALD TRUMP AND EXTREMIST POLITICS.

Progressives who continue to think that Donald Trumps Lack of:

-  Maturity.
-  Ability.
-  Integrity.
-  Emotional Stability.
etc...
and Highlighting These Traits to the American Public, are making a Crucial, and possibly Fatal Error, when it comes to preventing any/or all of his Agenda of Hate from becoming part of our legal system. WHY? BECAUSE its misunderstanding the Source of his support, and the extent to which these Individuals and Groups will go to bring about changes in our system of government, with the goal of undermining the very fabric of our Constitutional Republic. To them, ANYTHING THAT ADVANCES THEIR AGENDA IS PERMISSABLE. They may attempt to disguise these tactics by presenting them as "PATRIOTIC," OR "FAITH" BASED NECESSITIES TO "PRESERVE" AND "PROTECT" THE "AMERICAN" WAY OF LIFE, but those terms are just a smokescreen, hiding "THE ENDS JUSTIFY THE MEANS" Mentality.

Unfortunately, this appears to be the new "GAME PLAN" OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING, IGNORE CONSTITUTIONAL LAW OR CREATE BOGUS ACCUSATIONS, AND COUNT ON THE TIMIDITY OF THE OPPOSITION TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.

IN THE END, IT IS A LACK OF UNDERSTANDING THAT MAKES THEM SO DANGEROUS.

WHY?
Hard Core Trump Supporters go far beyond the Traditional Elements of the Republican Party Platform. To them, Hate, Prejudice, Xenophobia, Racism, and Religious Zealotry are perfectly valid and justifiable reasons to form Public Policy and Law.

That brings us to Rule #1- What Donald Trump has Done or Said, or will Do or Say, MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AS LONG AS HE TOES THE EXTREMIST LINE.
(Updated).

WHAT IS RULE #2? TO BE CONTINUED...

INSIDE THE BLACK HOLE: SYSTEMIC HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AGAINST IMMIGRANTS DETAINED & DISAPPEARED IN LOUISIANA

Every day, over 6,000 people are locked in immigration detention in Louisiana, the second-largest state number for a state behind Texas. The New Orleans Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office (“NOLA ICE”), the federal office that oversees immigration detention in Louisiana, has a long history of persistent, systemic abuse at their jails. A new report, published by a coalition of immigrants’ rights groups including Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, highlights just how shocking the conditions at NOLA ICE’s detention centers truly are:

  • People shackled in five-point restraints for 26 hours, unable to use the bathroom or eat and drink, left with deep cuts on their wrists and legs.

  • Women denied menstrual products and people in solitary confinement denied clean laundry and bedding for as long as three months.

  • Rat infestations, black mold, leaking ceilings and food clearly marked with expiration dates long passed and infested with worms and larvae.

INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE

ENFORCED DISAPPEARANCES: A STATE-SANCTIONED WEAPON FOR REPRESSION

In 1989, during the Guatemalan Civil War, four courageous human rights defenders were arbitrarily detained and disappeared by the Guatemalan Army because of their work to liberate Indigenous peoples forcibly conscripted into military service. The whereabouts of Agapito Pérez Lucas, Nicolás Mateo, Macario Pú Chivalán, and Luis Ruiz Luis remain unknown. Recognized under international law as a crime against humanity, enforced disappearances like those in the case of Agapito Pérez Lucas, et. al. v. Guatemala continue to be used by repressive regimes as a state-sanctioned weapon to punish opposition, silence human rights defenders, limit freedom of expression, and create a culture of fear. On International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we’re remembering the victims and the countless relatives still seeking information about their loved ones, hoping for justice and answers.

“NOW I AM GOING TO SPEAK OUT”: THE POWER OF YOUTH COMMUNITY ORGANIZING WORKSHOPS

In a three-part youth organizing workshop led by Karen Robinson, program director of Human Rights Education at RFK Human Rights, students from two New York area schools had the opportunity to learn about human rights, principles of organizing, and how to develop concrete action plans for their community projects. These workshops empower the next generation of human rights defenders to take effective action through targeted campaigns that assess the needs of their communities. Read more about their projects and learn how to register for upcoming Human Rights Education events this fall.
