David,
Yesterday, one person was killed and two others were critically injured in a shocking attack at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which authorities are investigating as an assassination attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump.
This horrifying and senseless act of political violence goes against everything we stand for as a nation. It also affirms the reality that gun violence is a public health epidemic that affects us all. Regardless of background or political affiliation, these tragedies continue to wreak havoc and create trauma for families across the country.
No one should ever live in fear of being shot. Our elected officials, our communities and our children all deserve to be safe.
That’s why, now more than ever, we must come together as a nation to support bipartisan policy solutions that can save lives. We must unite to finally end this gun violence epidemic and the continued divisive acts that fuel it.
At Sandy Hook Promise, we will continue doing everything we possibly can to work toward bipartisan, comprehensive solutions that will build a brighter future for our country and our children – one where every American is free from the threat of gun violence and the trauma it creates.
Thank you for being by our side in this work.

We must also emphasize one other important part of the problem:
STOP ELECTING OR PROMOTING POLITICIANS WHO USE HATE SPEECH, THREATS OF VIOLENCE, AND OTHER FORMS OF COERCION THAT APPEAL TO THE RADICAL MINORITY THAT WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET THEIR AGENDA PASSED. FOR YEARS I HAVE PUBLISHED ARTICLES AND POSTS THAT OFFER QUOTES FROM POLITICIANS THAT MIRROR THE ATTITUDES OF FASCIST GOVERNMENTS FROM RECENT HISTORY THAT USED THIS TYPE OF RHETORIC TO GAIN AND RETAIN POWER. IT IS INEXCUSABLE THAT SUCH BEHAVIOR IS EITHER IGNORED, DOWNPLAYED AS BEING BASICALLY HARMLESS, OR LEGITIMIZED AS NECESSARY TO WIN AN ELECTION.
