Unpacking the full results of last night's elections will still take some time, but one thing is clear: Historic victories were gained across our most fundamental civil liberties.

At the time of writing this email, the final results of the Senate, the House, and other state races have still not officially been called. But while we wait for more on that front, I'd like to take this moment to go over what happened across the country so far – to celebrate the big victories, to understand our challenges, and to strategize on what comes next.

For reproductive freedom, voters in Michigan, Kentucky, Vermont, California, and across the country demonstrated they will show up to defend our ability to access essential abortion care in overwhelming numbers. We are especially proud of last night's citizen-initiated victory in Michigan where voters passed one of the most comprehensive constitutional amendments that will preserve the right to reproductive freedom for generations to come.

Well before Roe v. Wade was overturned, the ACLU and our affiliates played a role in supporting historic ballot measure campaigns this cycle, investing millions during this record-breaking year for abortion measures on the ballot.

This progress extended beyond abortion rights, too. The people also showed up to defend our essential right to vote. In Michigan and Connecticut, voters passed landmark ballot measures that will expand access to the ballot through early voting and ensure absentee voting for every election.

Up and down the ballot, voters in key states sent a clear message: The overwhelming majority of people in this country want to protect reproductive freedom and abortion access and they want to make it easier to vote, not harder.

Yesterday was a good night for the future of our democracy, David. But I want to be clear, here and now, that we are not stopping at these elections.

With the full force of our organization, we at the ACLU will continue to hold those in power accountable in the courts, in legislatures, on Capitol Hill, at the White House, and far beyond. We will carry this fight relentlessly forward until access to abortion is expanded, until our constitutional right to vote is protected, and until our democracy is truly a free, fair system for all people in this country.

We are only able to do this critical work because of the unparalleled strength of our ACLU community – dedicated people like you. So, I want to end this email by thanking you for always being with us in the fight, in moments of victory like last night – and during the most challenging times for civil liberties as well.

We're working every day toward a nation where everyone's fundamental rights are safe and equal. And that is a fight we can win when we push forward together.

2022 MID-TERM ELECTIONS: INITIAL ANALYSIS- NO "RED" WAVE. NATIONAL RESULTS.

As of Now: 1900hrs, 11/9/2022. (NOT OFFICIAL)

U.S. SENATE- 48 DEM., 49 REP. WITH 3 UNCALLED.

ARIZONA, NEVADA, STILL BEING COUNTED.

GEORGIA WILL HAVE A RUNOFF, WITH NEITHER

CANDIDATE- RAPHAEL WARNOCK DEM., INCUMBENT

AND HERSCHEL WALKER RECEIVING 50% OF THE POPULAR 

VOTE. WARNOCK RECEIVED MORE VOTES THAN WALKER

IN THE INITIAL ELECTION, BUT IT DID NOT REACH THE 50% MARK.

EITHER PARTY WILL HAVE A MAJORITY BY WINNING 2 OF THE 3 RACES.

THE HOUSE OF REP.- CONTROL IS STILL UP IN THE AIR,

BUT THE GOP MAY HAVE PICKED UP 8-10 SEATS.

COMMENTARY- WITH ALL THE POSTURING ABOUT A "RED" WAVE

SWEEPING THE COUNTRY, THE RESULTS SAY DIFFERENT. THE SENATE

RESULTS ARE A VIRTUAL DRAW, AS COMPARED TO 2020. THE GOP 

LOOKS TO HAVE GAINED A SMALL MAJORITY IN THE HOUSE, BUT IN NO WAY

IS IT A MANDATE.

INITIAL COMMENTS- FETTERMAN WINNING IN PENNSYLVANIA WAS BIG FOR 

DEMOCRATS. WISCONSIN RE-ELECTING JOHNSON WAS BIG FOR THE GOP. WARNOCK

GARNERED MORE VOTES THAN WALKER IN GEORGIA, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO AVOID A

RUNOFF.

FOR THE FUTURE- AS OF RIGHT NOW, YOUNGER VOTERS CAME OUT BIG FOR THE 

DEMOCRATS. PROGRESSIVES AND LIBERALS SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THAT, AND BUILD  

ON IT. OLDER VOTERS TENDED TO GO RED, BUT IT WASN'T THE DEEP RED THAT

TRUMPIANS WANTED. 

SCARIEST- WHILE A TRUMP ENDORSEMENT MEANT LITTLE, THE FACT THAT YOU 

COULD FIND A COMMUNITY THAT WOULD RE-ELECT MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE IS 

BEYOND DISTURBING. I PITY ANY DECENT HUMAN BEING STUCK IN THAT COMMUNITY. 

MY GUESS IS THE WHITE HOOD AND THE SWASTIKA IS MORE RESPECTED THAN THE

RED, WHITE, AND BLUE. PLEASE GEORGIA, DON'T BE THE STATE THAT SENDS GREENE 

AND WALKER TO WASHINGTON.

YOUNGER VOTERS OF GEORGIA- SEND A MESSAGE. YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE GREENE,

 FROM ONE COMMUNITY, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE TO TAKE WALKER FOR THE 

WHOLE STATE. LISTEN TO THEIR SPEECHES, THEIR REASONING SKILLS, WHAT THEY 

TRULY VALUE. WHO WOULD YOU BE PROUD OF...TRUST...

WAY TO GO- PENNSYLVANIA ELECTING FETTERMAN. GOOD FOR YOU, YOU ARE STILL 

UNION BLUE.

LOOKING AT THE STATES RESULTS NEXT.

Here is a general definition of POPULIST, from Oxford Language Dictionary.

Populist-  a person, especially a politician, who strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.

From the start, the News Media and the Republican Party, with an odd refusal to question such a Conclusion by the Democrats, have painted Trump as the Champion of Regular Americans. In truth, his rise to power can be described as follows;

Donald Trump was able to build a Foundation of Support, Tenuous as it may be, because he convinced RACISTS, BIGOTS, MISOGYNISTS etc., to come together and HATE AS ONE GROUP. Even though he has never come close to a working majority, a SHAM ELECTION AND THE TACIT APPROVAL OF THE NATIONAL REPUBLICAN PARTY has allowed this "COALITION OF HATE" TO BLOSSOM INTO A FLOWER OF EVIL.*

Trump was a ''Populist" Candidate only in the case of bringing together HATE GROUPS, WHO SAW THEIR POLITICAL POWER ERODING AS PROGRESSIVE POLICIES TOOK HOLD IN MUCH OF THE U.S. BASICALLY, THAT REMAINS THE MAIN SOURCE OF HIS SUPPORT. Unfortunately, those elements that could have exposed TRUMP for what he was, and what the GOP was using him for, failed miserably.

- DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEADERSHIP. (U.S. SENATE ESPECIALLY)

- FEDERAL AND STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT.

- MEDIA- T.V., RADIO, PRINT.

What has been happening over the past few years, EXPOSING TRUMP AND HIS SUPPORTERS FOR WHAT THEY ARE, SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE THE DAY HE ANNOUNCED HIS CANDIDACY. However, when SENATE DEMOCRATS REFUSED TO FIGHT FOR THAN PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMAS CHOICE FOR THE SCOTUS, and the News Media ignored the Implications, the GOP and TRUMP saw their opening, and with their allies in the Russian Government, THE ATTEMPT TO OVERTHROW OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC BEGAN.
