Impeachment trial: US Senate votes that Trump’s impeachment trial is constitutional

The Senate trial of former president Donald Trump started on Tuesday with a debate and vote on the constitutionality of his second impeachment trial. House managers and the former president’s lawyers took up to four equally divided hours to make the case for or against the constitutionality of Trump’s second impeachment, followed by a Senate vote that passed in its favor by 56 - 44 votes.

TELL THE SENATE: FINISH THE JOB. SERVE AMERICA.

Petition: Trump’s impeachment trial begins on Monday, February 8th. Tell Senate Republicans to do their job and convict Trump.

David,

On Monday, the Senate will begin its historic second impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Despite a litany of impeachable offenses, most notably inciting the deadly insurrection at the Capitol, Senate Republicans have signaled they will not vote to convict Trump.

It’s a new low, even for Senate Republicans. But, David, there’s still time to put pressure on them by making our voices heard. Will you add your name right now to our petition calling on the Senate to do their jobs by convicting Donald Trump?

ADD MY NAME

If you saw Marjorie Taylor Greene’s speech on the House floor this week, you know that Republicans are embracing a new brand of extremism. Whether they believe her conspiracy theories or are just doing what they think is politically expedient, Republicans in Congress have failed to find the courage to condemn QAnon conspiracy theorists and dangerous extremism.

It’s time for Republicans to draw the line and reject Donald Trump’s dangerous conspiracy theories that led to the deadly insurrection and to people like Marjorie Taylor Greene being elected to Congress.

American Philosophical Association

Dear DAVID,

The APA will host a “Mentoring the Mentors” workshop on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Kathryn Sophia Belle, Associate Professor of Philosophy and African American Studies at Penn State University, will facilitate the one-day virtual workshop.

"Mentoring the Mentors"

Saturday, April 17, 2021

11 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET

Virtual

This workshop is for faculty and graduate students who serve as mentors of undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing further study in philosophy, particularly those who mentor undergraduates from underrepresented minority groups. The workshop aims to support mentors as they guide their students through academic philosophy and potentially on to graduate school in philosophy. Past workshops have included information on how to prepare a graduate school application, how to set healthy boundaries in a mentor/mentee relationship, and how to address the challenges unique to students from underrepresented identities in philosophy.

Originally designed to support mentors of students who attend undergraduate diversity institutes in philosophy, “Mentoring the Mentors” spends some time specifically addressing how to support students of color, women, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, and other students from underrepresented identities in philosophy. “Mentoring the Mentors” is generously funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

To apply, please fill out the  no later than March 5, 2021, with information about your mentorship experiences and hopes for the workshop. Selected participants will be notified no later than March 22, 2021.

If this workshop is not the right fit for you but you know others who might be interested, please encourage them to apply!

Please direct any questions about the event to APA Program Assistant Lucy Pawliczek at lucypawliczek@apaonline.org.
