Mitch McConnell must immediately bring the Senate back in session to pass gun safety legislation. JENNIFER WEXTON.

David, yesterday I stood outside NRA headquarters alongside hundreds of fellow Virginians to honor the victims of gun violence this past weekend and demand immediate action. I had a simple message: The House passed a universal background checks bill months ago. Mitch McConnell has the power to bring it to a vote in the Senate but refuses to do so. He needs to act now to prevent the bloodshed that is happening across our country. The only way to make him act is for us to apply public pressure like never before. We need to all raise our voices, and not let up. Will you sign my petition right now to demand that McConnell bring the Senate back in session and allow a vote on universal background checks? DAVID –  My job is to ensure Democrats have the support they need to flip red states blue and deliver historic Democratic victories in key states nationwide.

We have a lot of work ahead of us this year. Fourteen states are on the line in 2019 and 2020, and we’re already making big decisions on how to allocate our resources to win all over the map.

We have a strategy meeting to set our priorities tomorrow at 9 a.m., but first we need to know what voters like you are thinking. If you’re ready to elect Democrats who will stand up to Trump’s agenda, will you take a short survey to help us set our strategy?

So much is on the line in 2019 and 2020:

If Democrats lose: Health care access will be slashed, Republicans won’t take action on climate change, LGBTQ protections will be rolled back and efforts to stop gun violence will grind to a halt. We won’t be able to stop Trump’s hateful agenda.

If Democrats win: Democrats can expand health care access, take action on climate change, protect LGBTQ rights and get to work on long overdue common-sense gun safety measures.
