LOGIC. THE NEED TO EDUCATE, AND MAKE IT THE ENEMY OF IRRATIONAL, SELF-CENTERED, AND PSEUDO-SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT. PT 1.

I Know its Entertaining to Watch TV SHOWS that use Plot Devices that Make CERTAIN FICTIONAL CHARACTERS SEEM TO BE DEEP AND PROFOUND THINKERS, WHO ENJOY EXPOSING THE INTELLECTUAL WEAKNESSES OF OTHERS. THIS IS OFTEN DONE BY SHOWING HOW THEY ARE VIOLATING THE RULES OF LOGIC AND CRITICAL THINKING.

While I Applaud any Effort to Introduce RATIONAL THINKING SKILLS TO ANY PART OF THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE, (EVEN ENTERTAINMENT), THE UNFORTUNATE TRUTH IS THAT IT IS NOT ALWAYS CARRIED OVER INTO REAL LIFE SITUATIONS.  

THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE, WHEN WE EXAMINE ISSUES DEALING WITH POLITICS, SCIENCE, AND RELIGION.

Yes, These can be Extremely Volatile and Deeply Personal Subjects, and often Elicit Purely Emotional Responses to any perceived Criticism.  However, it is These Episodes that POINT FOR THE NEED TO INTRODUCE THE DISCIPLINE OF LOGIC, AS AN EDUCATIONAL NECESSITY, AT AN EARLY AGE.

When We Compare the Three, IT IS EASY TO SEE THAT THE RULES OF LOGIC, AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, ARE NOT FOUND, DEVELOPED OR USED IN THE SAME WAY WHEN PEOPLE ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH EACH.

That, in itself, is not NECESSARILY A PROBLEM, OR UNDESIRABLE. EACH EXISTS FOR SPECIFIC REASONS, AND WHAT SETS THEM APART IS THE FUNCTION OR NECESSITY EACH FILLS WITHIN THE LIVES OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL, AND SOCIETY AS A WHOLE.

However, Problems arise when Individuals and Groups decide to take the Beliefs and Essentials that are found in One, and Attempt to Apply them to one of the others. This is a Process that is Doomed to Failure, and does a DISSERVICE TO THE ROLE EACH PLAYS IN SOCIETY.

THE SOCIOPATH-  A DANGER ALL AROUND US.  PT 1.

Look for what lies underneath the surface.

When certain acts of violence are reported in the media, how often do we hear the following;
  • "How could he do that to his best friend."
  • "Why would a mother hurt her own children."
  • "He's such a nice guy and a good family man, he can't be guilty."
  • "The victims were so innocent, why would anyone want to hurt them." 
Of course there are numerous other examples I could use, but the point is clear.  Even after thousands of examples throughout the centuries, we are still caught off-guard by acts of seemingly senseless violence and brutality. However, we shouldn't be.  There is now, and perhaps has always been, a certain segment of Humanity that thrives on the misery they cause to others.THE SOCIOPATH.

I will define the Sociopath as; An individual with a fully developed and ingrained personality that;
  • Uses others as tools to satisfy individual desires.
  • Lacks remorse or empathy for the pain and suffering they cause to others.
  • Has a Grandiose, Inflated self-image that makes them feel like they are the center of the universe.
  • Enjoys Deceiving and Manipulating people, often for no other reason then a sense of power.
  • Positive words such as Dignity, Honor and Duty or negative words such as Cruelty, Prejudice and Suffer are meaningless. They represent concepts foreign to the Sociopath.
To put it simply, the Sociopath represents a personality that most of us cannot comprehend or identify with. That is where the Danger lies.  They use this lack of knowledge to cultivate new victims who are unaware of their true nature.

FEATURE ARTICLES. THE IRAN NUCLEAR TREATY- AVOIDING REALITY. PT 1.

(*IN THIS ARTICLE I USE THE WORD "TREATY" TO DESCRIBE
THE RESULTS OF THE NEGOTIATIONS.  HOWEVER, TERMS SUCH
AS "DEAL" OR "AGREEMENT" COULD REPLACE "TREATY" WITH
NO LOSS IN MEANING OR UNDERSTANDING.

As the Debate over the Nuclear Treaty with Iran is still being Discussed in Congress, and the Media, we find that one thing Remains True:

SOME POLITICIANS STILL AVOID ANY REAL DEBATE THAT MIGHT RESOLVE THE CONTROVERSY.

WHY?  IT WOULD INVOLVE INSIGHT AND THE ABILITY TO THINK BEYOND SIMPLISTIC SOLUTIONS THAT WILL ADDRESS THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION, INSTEAD OF REPEATING MEANINGLESS RHETORIC THAT PLEASES YOUR SUPPORTERS.

So, let us Step Back, Ignore everything that has been said, and look Beyond Bombastic One-Liners to see where the TRUTH MAY LIE.

First Question- WHAT IS A TREATY?

A TREATY IS BASICALLY A CONTRACT BETWEEN TWO OR MORE PARTIES;

THAT ARE USUALLY DIFFERENT GOVERNMENTS OR NATIONS, WHO ARE RECOGNIZED AS THE LEGITIMATE SOURCES OF AUTHORITY FOR A GIVEN GEOGRAPHICAL AREA OR POPULATION, THAT HAVE THE POWER TO CREATE AND ENFORCE ANY POLICIES, FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC.

A TREATY IS JUST LIKE A SIGNED BUSINESS DEAL. THE GOALS AND PARTIES TO IT MAY BE DIFFERENT, BUT THE PRINCIPLES ARE THE SAME.

What can we Safely Infer if Two or More Parties are Entering into Diplomatic Talks,
with the Outcome Eventually being a SIGNED TREATY FOR ALL PARTIES?

#1-  EACH PARTICIPANT IN THE NEGOTIATIONS HAS SOMETHING THE OTHER WANTS.-  No One Enters into These Negotiations Insisting that the Opposing Side Give Up Something, but will get nothing in return. Turning it around, No Side enters such Talks with the Idea of Giving Into Certain Demands, and Anticipating No Concessions From the Opposition. 

That would be Unrealistic and Foolish.

#2-  WHILE THERE MAY BE MANY POINTS OF CONFLICT OR DISAGREEMENT, ALL PARTICIPANTS HAVE ONE OR TWO MAIN GOALS THEY WANT THE TREATY TO ACHIEVE.-  These are Usually So Prominent that They are Generally Apparent at the Outset of the Talks, and are in some cases THE ONLY REASON(S) THAT BROUGHT THE OPPOSING SIDES TO THE NEGOTIATION TABLE.
