A BETTER DEAL. CONGRESSMAN DAVID CICILLINE.

Dear David,

I am hosting #ABetterDeal Town Hall on Saturday, January 13th at 2PM at the Pell Elementary School in Newport, located at 35 Dexter Avenue, Newport, to provide an opportunity for residents of the First Congressional District of Rhode Island to gather together and discuss ‘A Better Deal,’ the Democratic economic agenda to create good-paying jobs, raise wages and secure a better future. The American people want Congress to take bold action to support the middle class, but over the past year, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have prioritized the wealthiest Americans and corporate special interests over working men and women. I am fighting hard to oppose their disastrous policies, and I want to hear from you about the issues that matter most to you. More information on the upcoming Town Hall is available on Facebook here . If you have any questions, or to RSVP, email annie.pease@mail.house.gov or call 729-5600.
Afghanistan
The brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces represent our country’s most important values of service, honor, and courage. That’s why it was such an honor to be able to spend Christmas in Kabul, Afghanistan with men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who are serving there as part of Operation Resolute Support.

I had the opportunity to visit our troops in Afghanistan and Kuwait along with three of my Republican colleagues from the House Foreign Affairs Committee – U.S. Congressman Lee Zeldin, U.S. Congressman Mike Coffman, and U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. During the trip, I had the incredible privilege to meet with a number of Rhode Islanders who are serving our nation with distinction. These men and women represent the finest values that our state has to offer, and all Rhode Islanders should be incredibly grateful for their service.

ONWARD TOGETHER. HILLARY CLINTON.

David --

You’ve already been introduced to the first round of organizations. Today, I wanted to tell you a little bit about some of the newer members of the Onward Together family:

The organizers at iVote worked with partners on the ground to get automatic voter registration on the ballot in Nevada in 2017. 450 brand-new civic leaders and activists attended The Arena’s very first summit -- and they're on track to train 5,000 people by the end of 2018. At the Alliance for Youth Action, young people are using local organizing to address economic inequality, attacks on voting rights, and more. The team at Latino Victory Fund is working to elect more Latino candidates at every level of government. More than 400 students and leaders met last month at the Voto Latino Power Summit to share resources and tools for national advocacy. And with the help of Collective Future, 23 African-American candidates have been elected to local, state, and federal offices since August 2016.

Along with Indivisible, Color of Change, Emerge America, Swing Left, and Run for Something, I know these groups will continue to do the incredible work of making our democracy stronger in 2018, and I'm proud to be on their team. We’re only able to support these organizations because of you, so one more time, thank you.

Onward,
Hillary

GOP’s top priority: Slash Medicare. WASHINGTON CONG. CAND. JASON RITTEREISER.

  • David --

Over the holidays, I had the chance to sit down and read...responses to my priorities survey -- over and over, I saw that protecting Medicare and Social Security is a top concern in the 8th District.

No surprise there: for decades, millions of seniors have worked hard and paid into Medicare and Social Security, trusting the government to keep up its end of the bargain when they retired.

But Speaker Paul Ryan has made it clear that his top priority in 2018 is to gut these programs -- breaking a sacred promise to the American people.

In 2017, Paul Ryan and Donald Trump rammed through massive tax cuts for big corporations and the super-rich. This year, they’re going to stick seniors with the bill by slashing Medicare and Social Security.

We can -- and must -- stop them. Here’s how: In November, we need to flip the 8th District and take back the House...we need to tell Republicans: NO cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

QUICK HITTERS. FOR THE PEOPLE...? PART 2.

Hooded Man, Mystery, Scary, Hood, Horror

The List from PART 1 gives us the REAL PICTURE OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED IMPORTANT TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ON A NATIONAL LEVEL. ( OR ISN'T IMPORTANT, TAKE YOUR PICK.)

It can also give us INSIGHT INTO WHY THEY ARE ANXIOUS TO DEMONIZE ENTIRE GROUPS OF HUMAN BEINGS, WHICH INCLUDES FELLOW AMERICANS WHO ARE GUILTY OF NOTHING.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:

REPUBLICANS DO NOT SUPPORT
ANYTHING ON THE LIST, EVEN THOUGH IT...

-  Gives different groups of AMERICAN CITIZENS
RELIEF FROM SPECIFIC CAUSES OF ECONOMIC
DISTRESS. ( UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, RAISING
THE MINIMUM WAGE.)

-  Offers an OPPORTUNITY FOR COUPLES OF THE
SAME GENDER, TO ENTER INTO A LEGAL AND MORAL
MARRIAGE CONTRACT.

-  Expands or Creates Laws that Limit Campaign Spending, and
Discloses Lists of Prominent Donors.

-  Expands Gun Control Laws To:  REQUIRE BACKGROUND CHECKS,
LIMIT PRIVATE GUN SALES, RESTRICT THE SALE OF
AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

-  OFFERS REFUGE TO WAR VICTIMS, WHO ALREADY
HAVE TO PASS A COMPREHENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK, AND
HAVE NEVER BEEN ACCUSED OF HARMING ANYONE.

QUESTION #1.
WHICH PART OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC IS
HARMED BY ANY OF THESE?

IF SO, HOW, AND IS THE HARM ENOUGH TO NEGATIVELY IMPACT
THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ANY CITIZEN?

QUESTION #2.
DO ANY OF THESE ALLEVIATE HARDSHIP, OR CAUSE IT?

QUESTION #3.
WHO BENEFITS FROM THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS LIST,
AND WHO SUFFERS?

QUESTION #4.
DOES THIS LIST VIOLATE ANY PORTION OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION,
IF SO, HOW?

QUESTION #5-  DO ANY OF THESE REMEDY PAST INJUSTICES,
OR ELIMINATE ANY INEQUALITIES FOUND IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, OR IN CIVIL LAW.?
